2. “The only effective way to achieve this is to become selfless, placing more value on others than yourself. An interesting dynamic occurs when you discover, believe, and live this style of leadership: it will create a team that will walk through fire with you. You become a builder of relationships. There are two quotations central to this way of leading. First, “Do nothing from selfishness or empty conceit; but with humility of mind, let each of you regard one another as more important than himself. Do not merely look out for your own personal interests, but also for the interests of others.” Second, “the beginning of leadership is a battle for the hearts and minds of others.” The end product of this attitude is trustworthiness and credibility.” – Tim Young Source: The Role of a CTO/CIO: Leading Technology Executives on Setting Goals, Building a Strong Team, and Adding Value to a Company (Inside the Minds), Aspatore Publishing What is it?
3. PIA? Accountability is a measurement of how close or distant we are from our center. Convergence is our “sign post” Shared values > Trust, credibility/courage, integrity & action Values build upon each other and define the DNA of the team’s behaviors. When behaviors do not equal values then there is an issue! How do we evolve from a noun > adjective > verb? “A great leader's courage to fulfill his/her vision comes from passion, not position.” – John Maxwell
4. Simplicity Most of us operate with an auto response to the DNA of the performance oriented worker (POW) and follow the process of PIA. Company vision/IT vision > IT Creed > Mission Statement > Personal Mission Statement “It’s the leader’s responsibility for creating and communicating a clear vision. There are distinct differences between the leader’s vision and the company’s vision statement.” – Tim Young A) Personal Mission Statement/Mission Statement/IT Creed I) IT Vision P) Company vision “Once we begin to understand this, it enables us to walk freely in our calling. However, if we strive to walk in a role that is not in our DNA, it will result in frustration and failure.” – Tim Young

11. “Don’t let what you cannot do interfere with what you can do.”
12. “Be more concerned with your character than your reputation, because your character is what you really are, while your reputation is merely what others think you are.”
13. “Talent is God given. Be humble. Fame is man-given. Be grateful. Conceit is self-given. Be careful.”
14. “ You can’t live a perfect day without doing something for someone who will never be able to repay you.”
15. “ What you are as a person is far more important that what you are as a basketball player.”
16. “ Don’t measure yourself by what you have accomplished, but by what you should have accomplished with your ability.”
17. “ It’s the little details that are vital. Little things make big things happen.”
18. “ Failure is not fatal but failure to change might be.” Source: Inspiration from the legendary UCLA basketball coach, John Wooden
20. “What is the secret to team? How do we lose ourselves for the good of the group? Gifted players who aren’t team players ultimately hurt the team, whether it revolves around basketball or business or the church. And great teams are filled with players who understand that the good of the group comes first. But this understanding and sacrifice happens only when each player experiences belonging.” - John Wooden
