2. Schools are critical infrastructure entrusted with the responsibility of
creating citizens of tomorrow. A safe and secure environment is a
prerequisite for effective teaching and learning. Thus ensuring safety of
children, teachers and staff members during disasters is necessary.
3. The Importance of Security in Indian Schools
Indian schools are notoriously low on security and many schools across
the country are yet to install world class security arrangements. Many
crimes relating to children are occurring and criminals find it easy to
kidnap children from schools using several different ploys. However, in
recent times schools have realized the importance of having a proper
security arrangement and this is being put into place, albeit a little slowly.
4. School Safety Assessments
• School Safety Assessments…
• Identify specific strategies to make your schools safer for children and staff
• Reduce crime, violence, and disruptive behaviour risks
• Reduce potential liability risks
• Improve school-community relations on safety issues
5. PLN9’s School Safety Assessment
• Our safety and security assessments provide educators with an
independent appraisal of safety measures already in place, and
recommendations for enhancing those measures with improvements at
the building and district levels. School leaders use our security
assessments in multiple ways:
• Risk management tool for reducing crime and violence threats, risks, and
potential liability
• School-community relations tool to demonstrate a district’s commitment
to security prior to a crisis.
• Documentation of school district needs in advance of a levy campaign, or
as part of a grant proposal.
6. As school security professionals, we recognize the unique needs of
elementary and secondary schools when applying security concepts.
We understand that educators wish to take a balanced, rational
approach to improving security without adopting a siege-like
mentality. In conducting an assessment, we approach the process with
the idea that security needs and strategies often vary from community
to community, district to district, and even school to school within a
district.
