The 3D Internet is one of
the
most
important
technologies
world
is
looking forward to. 3D
Internet, also known as
virtual worlds, is a powerful
new way for you to reach
consumers,
business
customers,
coworkers, partners, and
students. It combines the
immediacy
of
television, the versatile
content of the Web, and
the
relationship-building
strength. Yet unlike the

of
• Restrictions due to limitations in terms of
bandwidth(speed).
• Imposition of physical constraints.
• Requirement of professional work practices.
• Collaborative environments to join the professional and
amateur media creators.
• Lack of inaction and immersive participation.
• Embodiment in current features of the Internet.
• Combination of two powerful components:
• The internet
• 3D graphics

• The result: Interactive, real-time 3D graphics delivered
over the web.
• Until recently, there were two problems:
• Slow computers
• Slow connections

• Downloading 3D content took a long time.
• Once downloaded, it ran very slowly.
• Quality of the graphics was poor.
Development of Computer User Interface

3D Internet Architecture
• World servers

Provide user- or server-side created, static and dynamic content making up the
specific web place (3D environment) including visuals, physics engine, avatar
data, media, and more to client programs.
• Avatar/ID servers

Virtual identity management systems containing identity, avatar information and
inventory of registered users and providing these to individual world servers and
relevant client programs (owner, owners friends) while ensuring privacy and
security of stored information.
• Universal location servers

Virtual location management systems similar and including current DNS providing
virtual geographical information as well as connection to the Internet via methods
similar to SL url. They can also act as a distributed directory of the world, avatar
servers and users.
• Clients

Browser-like viewer programs running on users computers with extensive
networking, caching, and 3D rendering capabilities. Additional components of the

Cross Model
Iteratively and cooperatively negotiated in communities of
professionals and amateurs
• Publicly opened and controversial
• Collaboratively edited/filtered
• Intelligent Services
• Underlying communication protocols and enabling services & user
centered services.
• In the inherent P2P nature, paradigms such as intelligent routing.
• Network topology and information structure allow for flexible and contextdependent distribution of traffic can be used.
• Intelligent Agents and Rendering
• Not just have to be personalized but also be presented and accessible in
a way users will consider natural.
• This would lead to the problem of modeling artificial agents and avatars
that act life-like.
• First attempts in this direction have already been made in the context of
computer games. • Corresponding approaches can be applied to improve
on the quality of virtual clerks and information personnel.
• Speed
A research shows that not many countries in the world are in a state to fulfill the internet
speeds that are required for the implementation of the 3D Internet. Here, in the below chart
we can see the average broadband speed in various countries. As a solution 3G will provide
higher transmission rates: a minimum speed of 2Mbit/s and maximum of 14.4Mbit/s for
stationary users, and 348 kbit/s in a moving vehicle. Hence, with the introduction of the 3G
technology, the speed implications involved with the 3D Internet would be solved in the near
future.
• Hardware
Hardware implications are not quite serious implications to be thought of, because
the main Hardware implication that we face to implement the 3D Internet is that the
display device used to display the images are 2D in nature, but with the inclusion of
the 3D internet there would be great difficulty to view the 3D objects in the 2D
devices.
•

Solutions
• Use of 3D goggles.
• Use of Vision Station as a monitor/display for the 3D Internet (Developed by

Elumens).
•

i3D
i3D can help maximize the value of the 3D Internet for business by making it
easy to:
• Deliver highly relevant and targeted messages, information and experiences
to people no matter where they choose to go in virtual worlds.
• Connect with people persistently as they move through Second
• Life and other 3D Internet platforms.
• Access precise metrics on their interactions.
• Ensure that people can control whether they receive your content or
not, increasing its acceptance in virtual communities.
• It combines unique technology with broad and deep experience in virtual
communities.
• It can help extend the brand throughout virtual worlds, deliver precise and
measured advertising, corporate content, meetings, or events, or provide
complex virtual educational or entertainment experiences.

Benefits for Advertisers and Other Content Providers
•

Deliver highly relevant and targeted content.
• Generate accurate quality and relevancy ratings.
• Improve return on investment by bringing traditional metrics & reporting tools to virtual
reality.

Benefits for Virtual World Consumers
•
•
•

The delivery of relevant, unobtrusive commercial content that people can easily find.
Ease of use with intuitive and efficient user interfaces that eliminate guesswork.
Also, consumers are able to receive content in several ways, including Virtual Kiosks
(stationary virtual display units that deliver media to avatars who pass within their
range), vHUDs (virtual Heads Up Displays) and Collab (collaboration applications that
enhance the conferencing capabilities of the 3D Internet).

SilverStream Network offers specific advantages to other
participants, including:
•

•

•

Virtual world platform providers: Offer a targeted ad and media network as an
additional revenue stream by working with i3D to integrate the capabilities of the
SilverStream Network into our existing systems.
Second Life Sim owners: Use the SilverStream Network to free yourself from parcel
medial limitations, offer SilverStream-enabled applications to your residents and gain
an alternate revenue stream.
Virtual world gadget makers: Add video, images and audio to your gadgets while
gaining instant revenue potential using a SilverStream-enabled advertising model.

• The limited effectiveness of traditional media techniques such as
Fixed location billboards when applied to virtual worlds. In the 3D
Internet, participants have complete control over where they go and
what they do and can move their avatars instantly through virtual
space. What is required is a means for making content readily
available to people not only at specific points, but throughout virtual
worlds.

• Lack of an effective way for enabling people in virtual worlds to
encounter commercial content that enhances their virtual experience.
Because participants have a choice in whether to interact with an
offering, it is essential that it be viewed as relevant and valuable to
their particular goals in the 3D Internet.
• An inconsistent means for enabling in-world participants to easily
interact with and access video, rich multimedia, and Web content.
3D Internet, also known as virtual worlds, is a powerful new
way for you to reach consumers, business customers, coworkers, partners, and students. In todays every expanding
and demanding world there is always need as well as
scope to enhance the capability of an individual, with the
help of technology. In todays world computers are used
extensively so as to speed up the various processes.
Hence this project of our tries to confront some problems
faced. 3D Internet combines the immediacy of
television, the versatile content of the Web, and the
relationship-building strengths of social networking sites
like Facebook. Yet unlike the passive experience of
television, the 3D Internet is inherently interactive and
engaging. Virtual worlds provide immersive 3D experiences
that replicate real life.
• Japan (through the AKARI Architecture Design Project) and Korea
have made public their ambitious initiatives in association China.
• In US, the FIND and GENI programmes are key contributors.
• In Latin America, there are several ongoing initiatives for identification
of opportunities for ICT collaborations.
• In Europe, Future Internet Research and Experimentation (FIRE), the
Future Internet Assembly and the Future Media 3D Internet Task Force
are the main endeavors that are currently taken place in the Future
Internet research.
