Trees play an important role in maintaining the health of our environment. They take in carbon dioxide and produce oxygen, reduce global warming by lowering greenhouse gas emissions, and provide a green cover over the Earth's surface. Trees prevent excessive heating from solar rays, improve air quality, and can cool homes as much as 10 air conditioners. They are integral to the water cycle by absorbing groundwater through their roots and releasing it back into the atmosphere as rainclouds. Planting more trees improves groundwater quality, prevents soil erosion, shelters wildlife, and contributes to our economy. Removing trees can lead to increased flooding, reduced rainfall, and endangered species.
