Comparing Two Arts
I chose two arts from Paul Cezanne's Mont, Sainte–Victoire and Raphael's Madonna of the Meadow.
Both arts were very incredible and meaningful. Each art was showing the strong points of people,
society, peach, and humanism. But I want to discuss between these arts. When I compared with both
arts, I liked Madonna of the Meadow better than Mont, Sainte–Victoire. Because Raphael's art is
giving you a clear point through his drawing. it has the clear shape, solid colors, specific lines, and

After reading over chapters fifteen through twenty they describe when and where art was used the
most. Art was used in many cultures in different time periods as the years, centuries pasted art
became more advances and more complex. People used what they could find to make something out
of it.
I learned that the earliest form of art began in Africa approximately two million years ago. It was
interesting to find out that the work of art was an engraved ochre that had lines as if it was crossed
hatches (Page 241). I also found out that other pieces of art were discovered from cave paintings to

Everyone has been created unique and there is no other that is the like anyone else. People think
different, dress different and like and dislike certain things. This is similar to the artists of the
nineteenth century including Pierre Etienne Theodore Rousseau and Joseph Mallord William

could say so is because of all the visual elements such as: the birches are in the middle of the

that they have in the Greek ancient period and the modern period of the same theme "the
representation of the Trojan war". The visual work art is a bilingual art because it was made with
the participation of two artists, Andokides (Red figure) and the Lysippides (Black figure) and it is
titled "Achilles and Ajax Playing a Dice a Game". It was painted in 525–520 B.C in Greece and it

Over the years of art history, there are many great empires that we think of and two of those were
ancient Greek and Egyptian. When talking about Greek and Egyptian art history, it is the sculptures
that come to mind when you are comparing and contrasting artworks. Egyptian art and Greek art
both had mesmerizing sculptures but Egyptian art was more oriented towards religion and Greek art
was more focused on philosophy. The Egyptianstatue of the Menkaure and a Queen was similar to
the Greek statue of Metropolitan Kouros in their posture but both of these statues also had many
differences. Menkaure and a queen statue was created from an unusual stone and the statue was
discovered in Menkaure's valley temple. The sculpture has a hard texture and because of the
time–consuming task of polishing this sculpture was never completely polished. So, the sculpture
is greywacke and has traces of red paint on king's face, ears and neck because male figures were

infer the content and context of the artwork. Art displayed through different mediums and about
different topics can share many similarities and draw connections between one another. Exodus,
created by Shelby Lechman (2015), uses oil paint on canvas to depict a young boy and father in a

connection of the works roots and art in history. Exodus exhibits the reality of human suffering as a
result of war and oppression during the Hungarian Revolution. The historical relevance of this work
dives into a deeper significance than its basic face value. The oppression and struggle for power
signified in Exodus also translates into Figure 2. Both cultures, in their own time have faced their
traditions and way of life being threatened. As Hungarian citizens are forced to leave their country,
Ojibwa members were constantly threatened by European immigrants. The human experience is key
in understanding and studying art. Besides the main styles and usage in appearance, the connection
to a point in time and the influence of that time allows the audience to connect with the artist and the
characteristics of the artwork. Audiences are able to connect past themes to present day issues, such
as the difficulties facing many Syrian refugees and the numerous Native American women who
have gone missing. The importance of home and culture is evident in both works despite their
different purposes and artistic modes. Limits are explored and barriers of past, present are future are
removed when audiences are able to interpret the work from any point in time and understand the
significance of its visual and non–visual means.

Art and Literature: A Comparison Art and writing are two very different ways of expressing
oneself, but there are elements of artistic expression that remain common in both. Tone, theme, and
structure are just a few of these elements. The works of Jasper Johns, "False Start," and, "Painting
with Two Balls," as well as Annie Dillard's, "Heaven and Earth in Jest," are comparable in that all
three works of art use the aforementioned elements in order to reach the audience with a direct

Created in 1960, the painting is 65 by 54 inches, almost the exact same size as, "False Start,"
(Artchive Painting). The paint used in, "Painting with Two Balls," does not differ much from
that of, "False Start." The bright colors are used again, setting the same uplifting tone for this
piece as the other two works. The structure of this piece differs dramatically from, "False Start,"
but is much like Annie Dillard's, "Heaven in Earth in Jest," in that it is broken into three visible
parts, just as Dillard created intentional paragraph breaks. The structure of the painting seems to
literally demonstrate the theme. The first break with two balls symbolically and literally
represents two eyes peering through blinds. This is a literal representation of the theme in the
sense that it is comparable to two eyes looking past what is on the surface for a deeper meaning.
The structure and tone of both works by Jasper Johns demonstrate the simplistic beauty of plain
existence. The works analyzed by Annie Dillard and Jasper Johns utilize structure and tone to
clearly present the theme they wish to portray. The bright colors of Johns' paintings are
comparable to the imagery used by Dillard in her anecdotes, and the structures of all three works

Art Comparison
Art is an incredible medium when used to its fullest potential. What I mean by that is; it has the
capabilities to surround the viewer with its imagery and play with the emotions. Paintings are
particulary effective in doing this through the use of color tones and 'temperature'. For example; El
Greco used a lot of blue and green throughout his body of work. The outcome is that the subject
matter comes off as ghostly and perhaps a little alien. This is in high contrast to Georgia O'Keeffe's
desert paintings, which utilise reds, yellows, and browns to create a 'warm' and appealing landscape.

Both Velazquez's 'Old Woman' and Rembrandt's 'Prodigal Son' are bathed in (or painted in) golden
yellow tones. While both are wearing clothes of differing colors, each pigment is mixed with a
little yellow, white, or light brown to give warmth to the figure. This helps them to contrast to the
very dark background. I like how Rembrandt has figures in the background that are almost
indiscernable. By being part of the opposing (darker) tonal group, we as viewers are shown that they
are not the most important part of the portrait; that the son and father are. Velazquez, however,
chooses to have all elements of interest in the lighter tones in his painting, leaving the back as a dark
void of mystery.
Van Gogh is probably one of the most interesting painters concerning tonality. His purposeful usage
of one color in a body of work is a strong reference to emotion (particularly in his portraits). His
expressive brush work swirls the blues, and slight yellow and green, around his face. Even his skin
has a bluish hue. These elements describe a somber or sorrowful state of mind. Its as almost if the
troubles around him are seeping into his skin (like the blue).
That being said, tonality is both the friend of the artist and the art–lover. It is a wonderful story

This essay will compare and contrast the work of two sculptors who use the human form as a
basis of their artwork. The first sculpture "Apollo and Daphne" by Gian Lorenzo Bernini was
created in 1622 and portrays a Romanian story. Where as "Two Women" by Ron Mueck is a hyper
realistic sculpture made by an Australian contemporary artist.
Gian Lorenzo Bernini was a traditional sculptor that was born in 1598 and created art pieces such as
"Apollo and Daphne" for well–known churches in Rome. On the other hand, Ron Mueck is a
contemporary sculptor from Australia who is known to use hyper–realism when creating
magnificent sculptures of the human form.

By using mixed materials such as silicon, fabric and plastic Ron Mueck to created the diminutive
and brilliantly realistic sculpture of two elderly women. Ron Mueck dresses and threads each hair

another, such as shape, size and texture. Bernini's work is a life size piece that complements the
figure of the two characters. The facial expressions, hands, feet and hair of "Apollo and Daphne"

other hand, Mueck challenge's the viewer by changing the scale of his work, with "Two Women"

Art Comparison During the Renaissance period of history, religious icons were a popular theme.
Often churches and other religious organizations would pay artists to recreate famous scenes
from the Bible which could then be hung in private homes are in churches and cathedrals. Many
paintings were done on the very walls of the church, painted into the plaster in a style known as
fresco. Religious paintings were also frequently purchased for the home by wealthy patrons. Each
artistic work was used to tell a different story and presented in a way which would reflect the ideas
and opinions of the church and the surrounding community. Two paintings from the period, the
MГЁrode Altarpiece by Campin and the Holy Trinity by Masaccio, are both religious works
which have a similar purpose, and can be compared by their specific time period and content, the
artist who created the pieces and their intentions, and the techniques which were used in creating
it. The Holy Trinity was painted between 1425 and 1427 (Lane 1999). In the work Mary and
Joseph look at Jesus on the cross and are themselves gazed at by two unidentifiable individuals who

In this paper, I will describe, compare, and contrast two paintings of the same name, The
Annunciation by Gerard David and Joos van Cleve. Beginning with Joos van Cleve's work, we
see the virgin Mary kneeling down before an opened book. An illuminated dove with its wings
spread is suspended above Mary. An angel is standing beside her, making a gesture. Both figures
are inside an ornately decorated, well lit bedroom. Mary is wearing a large, dark blue robe that
rests upon the floor as she kneels. A portion of it is suspended onto the stand from which she reads

Throughout history art has served as a preservation and representation of the time in which they were
made. During the Ancient Greek period art was not only mare naturalistic and humanistic but also
became directly affected by the events going around. Both the Marble Statue of an Old Woman and
the Marble Statue of Aphrodite are sculptures that were made during the Ancient Greek era, they
each tell a story of what was going on during that point in time.
The Marble Statue of Aphrodite is the eldest of the two sculptures, it was sculpted between the 2nd
and 3rd century B .C. During this period Greece was at its peak, the people of Greece had power

Another reason why the arms have fallen off is because, unlike the major societies before them,
Greeks believed in humanistic art. Societies before the Greeks, such as the Egyptians, used to keep
the material between what would be spaces between arms and body and the legs. This form of art
was not humanistic not realistic enough for the Greeks so most of their artwork follows the ideals of
humanism. Artists would break off the extra material that would remain after the statue was fully
sculpted. To further the realistic look of the Aphroditesculpture the artist, who is unknown at this

Greeks continued with the ideas of humanism and realism even as their society aged and changed.
Like many great societies before them Greeks hit a climactic point in their era that had people
uneasy and artist evolving away from the artistic norms that had been practiced for years; this new

two are sharper and more defined. Another formal element is texture. The first piece, according to
the text, is a floor mosaic which is composed of many colored tesserae that were laid down in
irregular, curving lines, which effectively imitated painted brushstrokes. The individual tiles are
more apparent when viewed closely. This gives the piece a grainy and earthy texture, where it
physically looks bumpy. The textbook says it has foreshortening, the illusion created on a flat
surface in which figures and objects appear to recede or project sharply into space. The second
piece was drawn with tempera on parchment. This makes the piece look smooth, flat, and two
dimensional. The next element is color. The hues in both pieces are relatively earth toned. Both

He grew up in Ireland to a wealthy family but his parent s moved between Ireland and England so
he always felt dislocated. He didn't seem to have a career or direction. He had a problematic
relationship with his father. His father introduced him to a friend of his who he instructed to take
him under his wind and make a man of him. Unbeknownst to his father the friend likes young
handsome gay men. The friend took him to Berlin and introduced him to cabaret amongst
everything "else". He had a difficult life and worked as an interior designer and did have had
some influence on the Australian artist Roy de'Maistre. While waiting to start his art career He felt
he could not yet start because he didn't have direction or a topic that would keep him interested. He
lived in France for awhile where he saw a lot of great artworks.
When he started this artwork (study of Innocent the X) he had to go to Rome to view VelГЎzquez
portrait of Pope Innocent the X. When questioned about his paintings he said it wasn't because he
had anything against the pope and then he went on to suggest some lie. The real reason was the
idea of power and anger that makes people do terrible things and distorts them. In the original
painting the pope is screaming but in the nightmarish portrait by Francis he is screaming and angry
with rage and power. His presence is demanded with colours and paint stokes that seem to
reverberate from his feet.

Compare and Contrast Works of Art
Bright colors jumping at you asking for attention, images so real viewers can not tell the difference.
These are the thoughts that came to my head as I gazed at two works of art by two Mexican artists
at MoLAA museum of art . I visited two museums, Bowers Museum of cultural Art in the heart of
Southern California and the Museum of Latin American Art in Long Beach for my report
unfortunately I only liked the works in MoLAA and will talk about it through out my paper. I will
talk about two Mexican artists Rafael Cauduro and David Alfaro Siqueros that caught my eye, and

Cauduro paints supernatural scenarios with realism akin to 17th century masters like Dutch artists
Rembrandt van Rijin (Painting information Cauduro).
The piece I choose to critic is titled "Buscado por su madre" or "Wanted by his Mother" by Rafael
Cauduro, no year. This piece is an Oil on Canvas painting that measured 48"x36" located at the
Long Beaches MoLAA. The work is presented as one of a few Mexican artists that share an
interest in their painting primarily figurative style, political in nature, that often narrated the
history of Mexico or the indigenous culture. The painting is one of the first viewers see as they
enter the Museum. It is at eye level and demonstrates a superb use of illusionistic realism that it
creates the illusion of being real. The painting is of a old Missing poster of a man on a brick wall.
What made it stand out in my eyes was the fact that it looked to be a three dimensional object on
what looked like real bricks with the words wanted by mother on the top. Cauduro's piece, in my
eyes looked like he literally took a chunk out of a wall, and placed an old torn missing poster of a
man on the front and put it out for display. Cauduro uses texture to represent the look of brick by
applying thick strokes of paint creating a body of its own as and mimics the look and shape of
brick. He also makes applies the same technique on the wanted poster by implying that it is old and
torn by again layering his paint to create the

Comparing Two Art Styles
In the study of the Humanities one can find a vast list of the different styles and periods of artwork.
The dilemma comes in when taking two different artist with different styles from different time
periods and comparing and contrasting them. The ability to contrast would be facile, but the truth
hides behind the ability to compare such divergent artwork. Artwork that one may look at first glance
and find more dissimilar, then finding the juxtaposition of the two pieces of artwork. Even though
Poussin and Toulouse–Lautrec's pieces of artwork can be considered different at first sight, looking
more in–depth into both pieces one will be able to find several contrasts and comparisons. The
different styles and time periods can not take away from the parallel that both pieces posess. These
artists have a dissimilar style and outlook on women partly due to the difference in era's.
The first work of art chosen is Nicolas Poussin, The Rape of the Sabine Women, that can be found

In this picture one can find friends and the women of the night that danced and entertained
Toulouse–Lautrec and his friends. Everyone in this piece of art work Toulouse–Lautrec knew by
name. One can find that the post–impressionist style is a intergration of the "impressionists' interest
in contemporary subject matter and Toulouse–Lautrec's expressionistic colors and lines" (2013,
Artic.edu). Toulouse–Lautrec wanted to make the atmosphere in the nightclub eerie to show the
unsavory and unwholesome ambience of the nightclub. The different lines, silhouettes and outlines
of some characters come together to allow the onlooker to visualize the drama and mood of the
night club as if he or she was actually there making it for a more lively
