In composition, problem–solution is a method for analyzing and writing about a topic by identifying
a problem and proposing possible solutions. The problem can affect a large group of people in a
small way, or the problem can affect a small group of people in a large way. In a problem–solution
paper, the solutions should be new to the reader. To write myresearch problem–solution essay I
followed three steps: researching, writing, and documenting. To start my research process I
determined the problem, and then began researching for solutions. The problem I chose was
registration at Normandale, and the common issue of classes filling up too fast. Once I had my
problem, I started researching for background information on registration, and...show more content...
For my introduction, I started by writing a thesis statement. My thesis statement stated the problem
of class registration at Normandale, and then introduced the four possible solutions; this gave the
reader a brief summary of what to expect. To organize my body paragraphs, I wrote out my first
topic sentence to define the problem, and then followed with four topic sentences for my four
solutions. Finally, I rewrote my thesis so I could restate it in my conclusion. After organizing the
introduction, body paragraphs, and conclusion, I was ready to write my first draft.
The purpose of my introduction was to interest the reader, and give them a brief background on the
essay. The introductory paragraphs consisted of a hook, background information on the problem
and why it is occurring, and then my thesis statement. My essay started with a direct quote I
discovered when researching. I then explained the importance of the quote, and followed with my
thesis. Also, I used correct MLA format when citing the direct quote in my paper. It's important to
cite all sources correctly otherwise it will be penalized as plagiarism. Once my introduction was
complete, I began writing the body paragraphs.
The main purpose of my body paragraphs were to explain and support my thesis. For my body
paragraph on the problem, I made sure to explain the problem of registration, give an example, and
then state who the problem affected. I then started the

Overfishing: The Problem and the Solution

Overfishing: The Problem and the Solution
A major environmental problem that has developed over the last few years is overfishing. What is
overfishing? Overfishing is simply what it sounds like. Overfishing occurs when fishermen are
catching fish so quickly and at such high rates that the fish are unable to reproduce fast enough to
replenish the population. It is my belief that, if this has not always been a problem, it has always
been a problem in the making. This problem has progressively gotten worse as the human population
that relies on fish as a food resource has increased and the equipment and techniques used by the
fishermen have...show more content...
Some of the actions that can be taken in order to reverse the problems that overfishing has caused
include: inform the public, put restrictions on catch limits, reduce bycatch, protect habitats, and
enforce all new policies. The following plan lays out the steps that will occur with each action and
when these actions should be taken.
Action Items:
Inform the public including consumers and fishermen of the problems and what can be done to
make a change.
Action Steps:
Research and identify the long term effects that overfishing will have.
Conduct interviews with both environmentalists and experts on the issue as well as fishermen in
order to present both sides of the argument.
Attend a city council meeting to introduce the idea and the importance of a presentation as well as
schedule a time for one to be made.
Present information on what overfishing is, the impact that overfishing has on the marine ecosystem
and on our existence, make consumers more aware of the type and amount of fish that they eat, and
actions that can be taken to reverse the problem.
Timeline:
Month 1–4
Action Items:
Put restrictions on catch limits.
Action Steps:
Scientists should assess and determine the total number of fish that could be caught without a
negative impact.
These levels should be constantly monitored and adjusted to accommodate changes.

This Has To Stop! Each year in America, at least 400,000 Americans lose their lives to cigarettes.
This is at least one out of every five Americans. This epidemic is growing on a daily basis.
Smoking can damage your body tremendously. Smoking can damage your lungs, brain, and heart.
Smoking is a problem not only for human beings, but for America as a whole. Smoking pollutes the
air. Cigarettes are made from 4,000 different chemical compounds and 400 toxic substances.
Smoking is also bad for America because of "second–hand smoke". We roam around in a universe
polluted by smoke. This is why smoking cigarettes is a problem. Smokers need to realize that they
are not only damaging themselves, but the others around them as...show more content...
The benefits of quitting smoking are great. When you quit you will realize that your general health
improves. How can we help people stop smoking? Many solutions could be put into effect. The
price for cigarettes should be more expensive and nicotine patches, medicines, chewing gum, and
electronic cigarettes should be less expensive. Many countries are controlling smoking by banning
smoking in bars, restaurants, hotels, and many other places. America should take banning smoking
more serious. Anti–smoking laws can also be used to regulate cigarette advertising by tobacco
companies. In South Africa for instance, cigarette advertising is banned Most people who smoke
hardly have any idea of the end result of their smoking habit. Information of the smoking must be
made widely available especially to teen smokers. More smoking solutions would also include
massive stop smoking campaigns via TV, radio, internet, billboards, SMS and over medium can also
be effective in communicating the stop smoking message. Other methods especially to do with teens
would be for parents and guardians, schools, and other authorities to spend more time with the young
people to understand their behavioral patterns. This would help to quickly identify changes induced
by tobacco smoking. I truly feel that these solutions could change the amount of smokers in America.
Last but least, smoking needs to stop. We as Americans need to reverse this growing epidemic into a

Essay on The Psychology of Problem Solving
Where there is a problem there is a solution. No matter how complicated nor how elusive the
solution is one is always there. Problems are the basis of jobs and careers: restaurants for hunger,
movies and video games for boredom, news for information etc. However, with basic problems
that have a set solution there are a variety of ways to solve it. Working backwards, although
slightly different, is a widely used and very effective way of solving problems. 1 (Referring to page
"Problem I") Most people would look at this problem and would loathe solving it because it would
involve creating a long complicated algebraic problem. Using the method of working backwards
even a child who hasn't learned algebra can solve the same problem and...show more content...
2 Heuristics are rules of thumb that can help us to reach a solution to a problem, typically when
facing complex problems or incomplete information. These rules work well under most
circumstances. They can also be considered shortcuts. However, heuristics can cause cognitive
biases. Having a cognitive bias can significantly affect the scientific method or ABCDE's of
problem solving. For example, "if the problem is "When do you eat food?", if you answer, "When
I'm hungry" then you would have to eat immediately every single time you were hungry. Instead,
we follow heuristics to determine when to eat by gauging our hunger level, the situation we are
in, and our ability to get food." The basis of problem solving is called the ABCDE's. Assess the
problem, Brainstorm approaches to the problem, Choose an approach that seems most likely to
work, Do it, try the most likely approach, Evaluate the results. To assess the problem means to
dissect the problem and see what it's all about. In order to sole the problem effectively one must
assess what kind of problem it is. Brainstorming approaches is the action of spontaneous creation of
ideas that pertain and could solve the problem. The more ideas produced the more "cushion" you

Life's Problems Essay
Life's Problems Life is full of problems, but how we approach those problems often determines
whether we're happy or miserable. Bob Maynard says, "Problems are opportunities in disguise." If
we approach problems with Maynard's attitude, we see that problems are really opportunities to
learn about others and ourselves. They enable us to live happier and more fulfilling lives. Maynard's
quote applies to all kinds of problems. I faced a problem just last week when our family's kitchen
sink developed a serious leak. There was water all over our kitchen floor and piles of dishes to be
washed. But our landlord was out of town for the week. I come from a big family–I have six
brothers and sisters–so we couldn't afford to wait until...show more content...
Whatever kind of situation we face, problems give us the chance to learn and grow, both physically
and mentally. For example, when I had a problem with my car and couldn't the repairs right away,
my problem become an opportunity to get some exercise–something I'd been waiting to do anyway. I
had to walk a mile each day to get to the bus stop and back. But in the meantime, I got the chance
to start getting back in shape, and I saved a lot on gas. I've come to realize that problems are
really part of what makes life worth living. Problems challenge us and give us the opportunity to
do things we've never done before, to learn things we never knew before. They give us the chance
to surprise ourselves. Just the word "problem" can send some of us into a panic. But problems
can be good things, too. Problems are situations that make us think and force us to be creative and
resourceful. They can also teach us things we didn't know before. For example, I had a problem in
school a few years ago when I couldn't understand my math class. I started failing my quizzes and
homework assignments. I wasn't sure what to so, so finally I went to the teacher and asked for help.
She said she would arrange for me to be tutored by another student who was her best student. In
return, though, I'd have to help that student around school. I wasn't sure what she

Essay Solutions to the Problem of Deforestation
Solutions to the Problem of Deforestation
Personal:
There are many things that one can do personally to rectify the problem of Deforestation. These
include such things as using wood sparingly, planting indigenous trees, purchasing the most
ecologically sensitive products, recycling paper, reducing consumption of wood related products,
communicating your opinions to the proper authorities, calling on forestry companies to act
responsibly, and more. Education, however is the most effective catalyst for change, we must
respect the forests as living communities not just resources to be exploited.
Government:
There are many things that governments are doing to rectify this problem....show more content...
Through educating local farmers, governments aim to teach farmer the Dangers of Deforestation and
Slash–and–Burn. Apart from educating farmers, Governments could provide incentives to
farmers, or give the High Yielding Varieties of seeds so that less land is cut down, and give farmers
fertilisers so that they can use the same block of land for a longer period of time. Improvement of
technology would also help as access to machinery would allow farmers to manage the land for a
longer period before moving on.
World Wide:
The Tropical Forestry Action Plan was the first major international initiative to tackle tropical
deforestation and was launched in 1985 by the UN's Food and Agriculture Organisation, the World
Bank, the World Resource Institute and the UN Development Programme. It wasn't very effective. It
was based on the assumption that poverty and over–population are the main causes of Deforestation
and it didn't recognise the role of developed countries. In time donor countries became unwilling to
fund the plan.
Regulating the Logging Industry is another world wide step to tackle deforestation. It is concerned
mainly with commercial logging and aims at rhe regulation of the world wide industry in logging
and other commercial uses of

Problem solving is a universal process that allows us to make decisions on everything from what to
eat and what to wear. These steps contain the necessary knowledge that has been constructed
through previous life experiences. Without sufficient experience the supports designed to
strengthen our choices are weakened ending in the ultimate failure of the problem. There are many
different strategies that good problem solvers use to solve a problem. The steps of the problem
solving process are systematic and organized. First, take your time and identify the problem very
carefully. Do the research, and become informed about your subject. Few good problem solvers

It is without doubt that humans will encounter problems that limit access to a preferred want or
need at sometime during their lives and this was no different in my own life. Researchers D'Zurilla
and Goldfried (1971) define a problem as "any life situation or task that demands a response for
adaptive or effective functioning" (415). My life situation in question became deciding between
attending school leading to future desired payoffs or working a menial full–time job that would not.
The first step in the problem solving process, allowed me to identify the problem. A situation can
be perceived or thought of as problematic when an individual encounters situations disturbs them or
they find that it keeps them from a goal (Bingham, 1999). The problem surfacing in affording an
education and paying for everyday necessities became the central focus at that point in my life and
defined the problem that needed an immediate response. The problem solving process can best be
defined as the best way to overcome obstacles in situations and the steps used to help overcome them
(Peterson et al., 2002). The second step, sort out information that is not needed provided clarity
during times in which the process seemed overwhelming. This called for a potential solution, a
desired outcome and how to get there. The research that had initially been part of the formulating
method had sparked an interest in the military. This idea was supported by the benefits that

Problem Solution Homelessness Essay
Homelessness the Problems of America Homelessness has always been a problem in major cities
across the United States and even the world. This problem also affects out local community and
even all of us individually. (Daily) A majority of the American people lives paycheck to paycheck,
and according to statistics, we are only one or two paychecks away from becoming homeless.
While there are many reasons a person or family can become homeless, a majority of those
problems come from a lack of income. The job market of today is quickly dwindling and shows no
signs of improvement. This market mixed with new government policies is becoming an issue for
struggling American's on the poverty line. Homelessness is becoming a vast problem...show more

Some veterans suffer from a mental illness known as PTSD (Post Traumatic Stress Disorder) when
they do not seek medical help they have a higher risk of becoming homeless then those that seek
medical advice. This disorder was caused by something that the military veteran experienced while in
active duty during war.
While the idea's that have come forth to try to solve the problem of homelessness, many people
have come up with great solutions that are currently helping these individuals. The programs that
are in place provide shelters for people who have been kicked to the streets and have no place to
stay. These shelters provide food, clothing, water, and best of all a place to sleep. However, these
shelters require the individuals staying there to seek a job during the day. The biggest problems
these shelters have come from the rules that apply to those staying. The current rules allow
homeless people to take advantage of the program by allowing them to stay there for up to 6
months, and then they must move to another shelter or live on the streets. The problem presented
with this rule is in most cities they have more than one shelter, which allows people to abuse the
system and live under the care of taxpayers indefinitely. However, most people understand that there
could potentially be more than one reason why a person would need to return to a homeless shelter
within 6 months to a year, but not spend almost their entire life using

The Problem Of Suicide And Suicide Essay
Day to day, teens suffer from peer pressure, problem from home, and stress from academics. Despise
their status in the environment, majority of high school students refrain from acknowledging the
presence of their reality. The problem in most situations in that students feel shut in, trapped in a
never ending misery. How do they cope? What are their ways of dealing? Most students live in
denial. Others have friends to confide in. For the devastating part, most students are not as open to
these ideas and it leaves them with this alternative: suicide. Suicide is the third leading cause in
teens the ages 14 to 19 within rural underserved areas. Suicidal ideation (SI), suicidal thoughts,
were surveyed in over 12 high schools and it was found that in the past year, thoughts of (SI) were
not shared with peers or even adults in the pursuit of receiving help or support (Pisani, 2012).
Because a student spends most of their day at school, it is ideal for schools to provide realistic
opportunities and school–based programs to assist with the suicide among the youth. The Surviving
the Teens Suicide Prevention and Depression Awareness Program designed four 50 minute session
or each high school student. This presented information in regards to factual information about
depression, suicidal warning signs, suicidal risk factors and myths associated with suicide (King,
2010). The program provide coping strategies for everyday life, referral sources if feeling suicidal,

I Am A Problem Solving Skills
Today in class I learned a lot about problem solving and how to have good problem solving skills.
Having good problem solving skills is an important skill every single person should have. We run
into problems every day that we need to be able to figure out on our own. I wouldn't say I am a
bad problem solver, but I would definitely say that my problem solving skills could improve. In
order to have good problem solving skills, you need to have good critical thinking skills as well.
Today in class, I learned the seven components that make up good critical thinking skills. Those
seven components are knowledge (recall information); comprehension (understand the significance
of the information); application (make practical use of the understood...show more content...
Learning about problem solving is going to help me significantly if I correctly follow the four
major steps. With that said, these four steps are defining the problem; devise (gather and interpret
information); implement a plan of action; and evaluate the plan for effectiveness. The step I
struggle with the most is evaluating the plan for effectiveness. I always know how I can solve
the problem, but it isn't always the most effective way to go about it, and then I am stuck. So,
learning about how to solve a problem the most effective way is really going to help me out every
day. Currently, I am trying to solve all these problems that are going to affect my future, either
negatively or positively. With that said, I also learned seven strategies to problem solving. These
seven strategies are going to help me tremendously right now and I can't wait to put them to work
and, hopefully, I will be less stressed with all of these decisions if I use these strategies correctly.
The seven problem solving strategies I learned today are keeping a positive attitude; ask
questions; use creativity; pay attention to detail; see all sides of the issue; remember that
persistence pays off; and to use reasoning. If I keep all these strategies in mind, solving all the
problems I have right now will not be as bad and they may even come easier. Another important
thing I learned in class today was common errors in judgment. There

Organization:Problem–Cause–Solution
Audience analysis:The audience consists of three of the adult teachers, one male and two females,
from my Sunday school class at Pleasant Hill Christian Church.
Topic: The problem I aim to address is that of the lifelong scars that affect a victim of childsexual
abuse; and how it hinders one from seeking God for healing and understanding according to
Scripture.
Rhetorical Purpose: To inform my audience about the intense emotional secrecy resulting from
childhood sexual abuse, and to persuade them that as teachers of God's word they should be
prepared to expect the unexpected while providing non–judgmental support and guidance to the
victims working through issues of trust, intimacy and identity while seeking a personal relationship
with Christ.
Redemptive Purpose:For a number of reasons, most sexually abused children never share "the
secret" of their abuse that is most often committed by someone the child knows. Therefore, crippling
their lives is the loss of self–worth, overwhelmed with shame, and fearful of developing
relationships that prevents them from experiencing life as God intended throughout Scripture. The
solution I propose is to understand how God sees the problem while providing a safe atmosphere
while share Christ–like love and compassion enabling the victims to break the power of the secret
and live for Christ.

Problem Solution Essay
I have a small group of friends that get into arguments, sometimes going so far as to cut
off contact when worst comes to worst, always claiming that the other person needs to grow
thicker skin or just deal with whatever accusations come their way. These friends, sad to say, act
like this online exclusively, a medium where disregard for another person's feelings is normal,
and insults are common place. This kind of negative attitude only harms the potential for
discussion, and creates an apathetic mindset towards vitriol. Like with all mindsets, however,
there is a way to shift it from apathetic and defensive, to civil and positive.

way to get rid of the toxicity was to prevent it from entering altogether and strip everyone of
their ability to comment. The people who have to endure this, those who want to participate in
the discussion and content creators alike, are forced to go through several of these comments on
a daily basis, holding out for a single interesting point to be raised or a proper critique of
whatever they indulge in. This kind of exchange is emotionally taxing on those who do care and
only serves to add to the negativity.
This kind of attitude, the one that permits people to behave as rudely as they please
without a second thought for the other person behind the screen does not stem from a previous
time period, but something that is inherent to the internet. The internet, in allowing people to
communicate from behind their monitors, creates anonymity. Anonymity allows people to
express their opinions, be they intentionally hurtful or not, freely and with as much anger and
vitriol as they feel is necessary. This is not the only factor at play however. "Being able to
dismiss online aggression as "bad people doing things under the cloak of anonymity" is a

Problem Solution Essay: Reducing College Debt
"Statewide, graduates of Ohio's more than 200 colleges and Universities carry some of the highest
average debt in the country"(Martin 5). College debt has been a staggering issue statewide; students
apply to loans they can't handle and the effective of doing so hurts them financially. College debt
continues to rise; unfortunately, three solutions have been offered which range from planning,
scholarships, and community college. The cost of colleges increasing, leaving a large amount of
students in debt. It creates an enormous amount of stress on individuals. For instance, Kelsey
Griffith a graduate from Ohio Northern University begins to pay off " her $120,000 in student
debt"(Martin 4). Moreover, with dept this high, Ms. Griffith works two jobs and is forced to move
in with her parents to be financially stable. In addition, the demand for college education is high and
loans are easily attainable. For example, Ms. Griffith knew her college was expensive, but they

much cheaper than attending a university for all four years right after high school. In addition,
working during high school alleviates debt even more. For example a "high school student who
works 20 hours per week(more during the summer, less during the school year) and saves $6 per

enough money to complete college debt free. After the student could attend grad school with extra

Problems With Social Media Essay
Problems with Social Media Social media or any other type of social networking can be harmful.
There are many studies showing that social media may help our society, but they don't tell you any
of the problems being caused by social media. One of the main problems occurring are cyberbullies.
Cyberbullies are bullies over the internet that try to harm people with rude or hateful messages and
even misuse personal information. Cyberbullying causes a big issue in society, often leading to
stress, anger, and even suicide. To get started, Cyberbullying causes stress on a lot of people, not just

When people think they are the only ones getting bullied, they are scared to go out in public,
which makes them angry. They don't know how to solve the problem and that cause huge issues
with their life. Constantly feeling lonely makes you feel like you have no friends, nor can you get
any friends because of it. More studies shown from Carl shows that males get angry and vengeful
whenever they are cyberbullied, which causes them to say something back to a bully or try to fight.
When teens do that when getting bullied rather than trying to solve the problem in a good way only
makes things worse. Ignoring a cyberbully and deleting your social media account is a good step
into stopping the bullying. If you fire words back at a bully, they know they are getting the attention
they want. Bullies strive off attention. Ignoring a bully is one of the most important steps in getting
a bully to stop. If that doesn't work it's better to start trying to get help from other people such as
counseling. The last issue is suicide. Suicide is also a huge problem when it comes to cyberbullying
or any other type of bullying. Studies have shown from Jama Pediatrics that Cyberbullying are more
strongly related to suicidal thoughts in children and adolescents than traditional bullying. Estimates
have confirmed that almost 20% of victims are cyberbullied. Previous studies have also shown that
bullying is a strong factor for adolescent

can't use their time on computers to fulfill their needs or wishes, they start getting angry about it,

problem is not an emergency. Nevertheless, during the midterm week, I don't even try to use a

Indeed, as everything else in the world, this situation has its own causes. First, the clearest and first
to think of cause is that there are not enough computers for everyone. That statement also breaks up
into two causes – too few computers, or too many students. There are about a 100 computers
available for students, not counting library computers, and more than 1000 students. Second, there is
not enough computer time per student allowed. Ordinary student can use the computer for one and a
half hour, while a Software Engineering student can use a computer for three hours (which, of
course, makes sense). Third, wrong computer time management is a cause of lack of computers
problem. Again, it leads us to two different situations. Students may use their computer time to play
games and chat online and be happy, but

issues. In order to get to a solution one must first come up with a method that includes thinking of a
topic that is closely related to the subject of image, present said topic to the professor, compose an
outline for a rough draft and eventually a final draft. This process will ultimately allow the student to

Beyond the limitations of the actual assignment, the overall prompt presents restrictions in that the

problems when people outside of the "peers" and the instructor read this essay. The requirements call
for the student to turn in other assignments with the actual final draft, which may enhance the

Problem Solution Essays Examples

  • 1. In composition, problem–solution is a method for analyzing and writing about a topic by identifying a problem and proposing possible solutions. The problem can affect a large group of people in a small way, or the problem can affect a small group of people in a large way. In a problem–solution paper, the solutions should be new to the reader. To write myresearch problem–solution essay I followed three steps: researching, writing, and documenting. To start my research process I determined the problem, and then began researching for solutions. The problem I chose was registration at Normandale, and the common issue of classes filling up too fast. Once I had my problem, I started researching for background information on registration, and...show more content... For my introduction, I started by writing a thesis statement. My thesis statement stated the problem of class registration at Normandale, and then introduced the four possible solutions; this gave the reader a brief summary of what to expect. To organize my body paragraphs, I wrote out my first topic sentence to define the problem, and then followed with four topic sentences for my four solutions. Finally, I rewrote my thesis so I could restate it in my conclusion. After organizing the introduction, body paragraphs, and conclusion, I was ready to write my first draft. The purpose of my introduction was to interest the reader, and give them a brief background on the essay. The introductory paragraphs consisted of a hook, background information on the problem and why it is occurring, and then my thesis statement. My essay started with a direct quote I discovered when researching. I then explained the importance of the quote, and followed with my thesis. Also, I used correct MLA format when citing the direct quote in my paper. It's important to cite all sources correctly otherwise it will be penalized as plagiarism. Once my introduction was complete, I began writing the body paragraphs. The main purpose of my body paragraphs were to explain and support my thesis. For my body paragraph on the problem, I made sure to explain the problem of registration, give an example, and then state who the problem affected. I then started the Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 2. Overfishing: The Problem and the Solution Your Name Axia College of University of Phoenix Overfishing: The Problem and the Solution A major environmental problem that has developed over the last few years is overfishing. What is overfishing? Overfishing is simply what it sounds like. Overfishing occurs when fishermen are catching fish so quickly and at such high rates that the fish are unable to reproduce fast enough to replenish the population. It is my belief that, if this has not always been a problem, it has always been a problem in the making. This problem has progressively gotten worse as the human population that relies on fish as a food resource has increased and the equipment and techniques used by the fishermen have...show more content... Some of the actions that can be taken in order to reverse the problems that overfishing has caused include: inform the public, put restrictions on catch limits, reduce bycatch, protect habitats, and enforce all new policies. The following plan lays out the steps that will occur with each action and when these actions should be taken. Action Items: Inform the public including consumers and fishermen of the problems and what can be done to make a change. Action Steps: Research and identify the long term effects that overfishing will have. Conduct interviews with both environmentalists and experts on the issue as well as fishermen in order to present both sides of the argument. Attend a city council meeting to introduce the idea and the importance of a presentation as well as schedule a time for one to be made. Present information on what overfishing is, the impact that overfishing has on the marine ecosystem and on our existence, make consumers more aware of the type and amount of fish that they eat, and actions that can be taken to reverse the problem. Timeline: Month 1–4
  • 3. Action Items: Put restrictions on catch limits. Action Steps: Scientists should assess and determine the total number of fish that could be caught without a negative impact. • 4. Problem/Solution Essay This Has To Stop! Smoking pollutes the air. Cigarettes are made from 4,000 different chemical compounds and 400 toxic substances. Smoking is also bad for America because of "second–hand smoke". We roam around in a universe polluted by smoke. This is why smoking cigarettes is a problem. Smokers need to realize that they are not only damaging themselves, but the others around them as...show more content... The benefits of quitting smoking are great. When you quit you will realize that your general health improves. How can we help people stop smoking? Many solutions could be put into effect. The price for cigarettes should be more expensive and nicotine patches, medicines, chewing gum, and electronic cigarettes should be less expensive. Many countries are controlling smoking by banning smoking in bars, restaurants, hotels, and many other places. America should take banning smoking more serious. Anti–smoking laws can also be used to regulate cigarette advertising by tobacco companies. In South Africa for instance, cigarette advertising is banned Most people who smoke hardly have any idea of the end result of their smoking habit. Information of the smoking must be made widely available especially to teen smokers. More smoking solutions would also include massive stop smoking campaigns via TV, radio, internet, billboards, SMS and over medium can also be effective in communicating the stop smoking message. Other methods especially to do with teens would be for parents and guardians, schools, and other authorities to spend more time with the young people to understand their behavioral patterns. This would help to quickly identify changes induced by tobacco smoking. I truly feel that these solutions could change the amount of smokers in America. Last but least, smoking needs to stop. We as Americans need to reverse this growing epidemic into a Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 5. Essay on The Psychology of Problem Solving Where there is a problem there is a solution. No matter how complicated nor how elusive the solution is one is always there. Problems are the basis of jobs and careers: restaurants for hunger, movies and video games for boredom, news for information etc. However, with basic problems that have a set solution there are a variety of ways to solve it. Working backwards, although slightly different, is a widely used and very effective way of solving problems. 1 (Referring to page "Problem I") Most people would look at this problem and would loathe solving it because it would involve creating a long complicated algebraic problem. Using the method of working backwards even a child who hasn't learned algebra can solve the same problem and...show more content... 2 Heuristics are rules of thumb that can help us to reach a solution to a problem, typically when facing complex problems or incomplete information. These rules work well under most circumstances. They can also be considered shortcuts. However, heuristics can cause cognitive biases. Having a cognitive bias can significantly affect the scientific method or ABCDE's of problem solving. For example, "if the problem is "When do you eat food?", if you answer, "When I'm hungry" then you would have to eat immediately every single time you were hungry. Instead, we follow heuristics to determine when to eat by gauging our hunger level, the situation we are in, and our ability to get food." The basis of problem solving is called the ABCDE's. Assess the problem, Brainstorm approaches to the problem, Choose an approach that seems most likely to work, Do it, try the most likely approach, Evaluate the results. To assess the problem means to dissect the problem and see what it's all about. In order to sole the problem effectively one must assess what kind of problem it is. Brainstorming approaches is the action of spontaneous creation of ideas that pertain and could solve the problem. The more ideas produced the more "cushion" you Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 6. Life's Problems Essay Life's Problems Life is full of problems, but how we approach those problems often determines whether we're happy or miserable. Bob Maynard says, "Problems are opportunities in disguise." If we approach problems with Maynard's attitude, we see that problems are really opportunities to learn about others and ourselves. They enable us to live happier and more fulfilling lives. Maynard's quote applies to all kinds of problems. I faced a problem just last week when our family's kitchen sink developed a serious leak. There was water all over our kitchen floor and piles of dishes to be washed. But our landlord was out of town for the week. I come from a big family–I have six brothers and sisters–so we couldn't afford to wait until...show more content... Whatever kind of situation we face, problems give us the chance to learn and grow, both physically and mentally. For example, when I had a problem with my car and couldn't the repairs right away, my problem become an opportunity to get some exercise–something I'd been waiting to do anyway. I had to walk a mile each day to get to the bus stop and back. But in the meantime, I got the chance to start getting back in shape, and I saved a lot on gas. I've come to realize that problems are really part of what makes life worth living. Problems challenge us and give us the opportunity to do things we've never done before, to learn things we never knew before. They give us the chance to surprise ourselves. Just the word "problem" can send some of us into a panic. But problems can be good things, too. Problems are situations that make us think and force us to be creative and resourceful. They can also teach us things we didn't know before. For example, I had a problem in school a few years ago when I couldn't understand my math class. I started failing my quizzes and homework assignments. I wasn't sure what to so, so finally I went to the teacher and asked for help. She said she would arrange for me to be tutored by another student who was her best student. In return, though, I'd have to help that student around school. These include such things as using wood sparingly, planting indigenous trees, purchasing the most ecologically sensitive products, recycling paper, reducing consumption of wood related products, communicating your opinions to the proper authorities, calling on forestry companies to act responsibly, and more. Through educating local farmers, governments aim to teach farmer the Dangers of Deforestation and Slash–and–Burn. Apart from educating farmers, Governments could provide incentives to farmers, or give the High Yielding Varieties of seeds so that less land is cut down, and give farmers fertilisers so that they can use the same block of land for a longer period of time. Improvement of technology would also help as access to machinery would allow farmers to manage the land for a longer period before moving on. World Wide: The Tropical Forestry Action Plan was the first major international initiative to tackle tropical deforestation and was launched in 1985 by the UN's Food and Agriculture Organisation, the World Bank, the World Resource Institute and the UN Development Programme. It wasn't very effective. It was based on the assumption that poverty and over–population are the main causes of Deforestation and it didn't recognise the role of developed countries. In time donor countries became unwilling to fund the plan. Regulating the Logging Industry is another world wide step to tackle deforestation. It is concerned mainly with commercial logging and aims at rhe regulation of the world wide industry in logging and other commercial uses of Get more content on HelpWriting.net

These steps contain the necessary knowledge that has been constructed through previous life experiences. Without sufficient experience the supports designed to strengthen our choices are weakened ending in the ultimate failure of the problem. There are many different strategies that good problem solvers use to solve a problem. The steps of the problem solving process are systematic and organized. It is without doubt that humans will encounter problems that limit access to a preferred want or need at sometime during their lives and this was no different in my own life. Researchers D'Zurilla and Goldfried (1971) define a problem as "any life situation or task that demands a response for adaptive or effective functioning" (415). My life situation in question became deciding between attending school leading to future desired payoffs or working a menial full–time job that would not. The first step in the problem solving process, allowed me to identify the problem. A situation can be perceived or thought of as problematic when an individual encounters situations disturbs them or they find that it keeps them from a goal (Bingham, 1999). The problem surfacing in affording an education and paying for everyday necessities became the central focus at that point in my life and defined the problem that needed an immediate response. The problem solving process can best be defined as the best way to overcome obstacles in situations and the steps used to help overcome them (Peterson et al., 2002). The second step, sort out information that is not needed provided clarity during times in which the process seemed overwhelming. This called for a potential solution, a desired outcome and how to get there. The research that had initially been part of the formulating method had sparked an interest in the military. While there are many reasons a person or family can become homeless, a majority of those problems come from a lack of income. Some veterans suffer from a mental illness known as PTSD (Post Traumatic Stress Disorder) when they do not seek medical help they have a higher risk of becoming homeless then those that seek medical advice. This disorder was caused by something that the military veteran experienced while in active duty during war. While the idea's that have come forth to try to solve the problem of homelessness, many people have come up with great solutions that are currently helping these individuals. The programs that are in place provide shelters for people who have been kicked to the streets and have no place to stay. These shelters provide food, clothing, water, and best of all a place to sleep. However, these shelters require the individuals staying there to seek a job during the day. The biggest problems these shelters have come from the rules that apply to those staying. The current rules allow homeless people to take advantage of the program by allowing them to stay there for up to 6 months, and then they must move to another shelter or live on the streets. The problem presented with this rule is in most cities they have more than one shelter, which allows people to abuse the system and live under the care of taxpayers indefinitely. However, most people understand that there could potentially be more than one reason why a person would need to return to a homeless shelter within 6 months to a year, but not spend almost their entire life using Get more content on HelpWriting.net

Despise their status in the environment, majority of high school students refrain from acknowledging the presence of their reality. The problem in most situations in that students feel shut in, trapped in a never ending misery. How do they cope? What are their ways of dealing? Most students live in denial. Others have friends to confide in. For the devastating part, most students are not as open to these ideas and it leaves them with this alternative: suicide. Suicide is the third leading cause in teens the ages 14 to 19 within rural underserved areas. Suicidal ideation (SI), suicidal thoughts, were surveyed in over 12 high schools and it was found that in the past year, thoughts of (SI) were not shared with peers or even adults in the pursuit of receiving help or support (Pisani, 2012). Because a student spends most of their day at school, it is ideal for schools to provide realistic opportunities and school–based programs to assist with the suicide among the youth. The Surviving the Teens Suicide Prevention and Depression Awareness Program designed four 50 minute session or each high school student. Having good problem solving skills is an important skill every single person should have. We run into problems every day that we need to be able to figure out on our own. I wouldn't say I am a bad problem solver, but I would definitely say that my problem solving skills could improve. In order to have good problem solving skills, you need to have good critical thinking skills as well. Today in class, I learned the seven components that make up good critical thinking skills. Those seven components are knowledge (recall information); comprehension (understand the significance of the information); application (make practical use of the understood...show more content... Learning about problem solving is going to help me significantly if I correctly follow the four major steps. With that said, these four steps are defining the problem; devise (gather and interpret information); implement a plan of action; and evaluate the plan for effectiveness. The step I struggle with the most is evaluating the plan for effectiveness. I always know how I can solve the problem, but it isn't always the most effective way to go about it, and then I am stuck. So, learning about how to solve a problem the most effective way is really going to help me out every day. Currently, I am trying to solve all these problems that are going to affect my future, either negatively or positively. With that said, I also learned seven strategies to problem solving. These seven strategies are going to help me tremendously right now and I can't wait to put them to work and, hopefully, I will be less stressed with all of these decisions if I use these strategies correctly. The seven problem solving strategies I learned today are keeping a positive attitude; ask questions; use creativity; pay attention to detail; see all sides of the issue; remember that persistence pays off; and to use reasoning. If I keep all these strategies in mind, solving all the problems I have right now will not be as bad and they may even come easier. • 13. Persuasive Speech : Problem Cause Solution Persuasive Speech Outline Carolyn Strickland COMS 101–Section B08 September 28, 2015 Organization:Problem–Cause–Solution Audience analysis:The audience consists of three of the adult teachers, one male and two females, from my Sunday school class at Pleasant Hill Christian Church. Topic: The problem I aim to address is that of the lifelong scars that affect a victim of childsexual abuse; and how it hinders one from seeking God for healing and understanding according to Scripture. Rhetorical Purpose: To inform my audience about the intense emotional secrecy resulting from childhood sexual abuse, and to persuade them that as teachers of God's word they should be prepared to expect the unexpected while providing non–judgmental support and guidance to the victims working through issues of trust, intimacy and identity while seeking a personal relationship with Christ. Redemptive Purpose:For a number of reasons, most sexually abused children never share "the secret" of their abuse that is most often committed by someone the child knows. Therefore, crippling their lives is the loss of self–worth, overwhelmed with shame, and fearful of developing relationships that prevents them from experiencing life as God intended throughout Scripture. The solution I propose is to understand how God sees the problem while providing a safe atmosphere while share Christ–like love and compassion enabling the victims to break the power of the secret and live for Christ. The internet, in allowing people to communicate from behind their monitors, creates anonymity. Anonymity allows people to express their opinions, be they intentionally hurtful or not, freely and with as much anger and vitriol as they feel is necessary. This is not the only factor at play however. College debt has been a staggering issue statewide; students apply to loans they can't handle and the effective of doing so hurts them financially. For instance, the average tuition for Arizona state universities is "$9,200" while Maricopa community college average at "$2,280"(NCES 7). Moreover, attending a community college first saves the student $7,430. It's much cheaper than attending a university for all four years right after high school. In addition, working during high school alleviates debt even more. For example a "high school student who works 20 hours per week(more during the summer, less during the school year) and saves $6 per hour" will save about "$24, 960"(Steinberg 13). Furthermore, this would provide the student with enough money to complete college debt free. They don't know how to solve the problem and that cause huge issues with their life. Constantly feeling lonely makes you feel like you have no friends, nor can you get any friends because of it. More studies shown from Carl shows that males get angry and vengeful whenever they are cyberbullied, which causes them to say something back to a bully or try to fight. When teens do that when getting bullied rather than trying to solve the problem in a good way only makes things worse. Ignoring a cyberbully and deleting your social media account is a good step into stopping the bullying. If you fire words back at a bully, they know they are getting the attention they want. Bullies strive off attention. Ignoring a bully is one of the most important steps in getting a bully to stop. If that doesn't work it's better to start trying to get help from other people such as counseling. The last issue is suicide. Probably, it is such because it has got good teachers, American style and system of education and it is equipped with really good technologies. Still, as the university expands, more new students come than graduate, less frequently updated and increased in number computers start to become a problem. Right now there are more than one thousand students studying in AUCA, while in the computer laboratories there are over 100 computers available. For instance, if I, as an average student, start writing the essay the day before the deadline, won't be able to find a computer to type my essay, I will get an F grade for this paper. The same situation may become worse when it is time close to midterm or even final exams. Obviously, when students can't use their time on computers to fulfill their needs or wishes, they start getting angry about it, and this is no good. Usually, there are no people in the laboratories early in the morning, so the problem is not an emergency. Nevertheless, during the midterm week, I don't even try to use a computer, because time is money, and it takes a lot of time. Indeed, as everything else in the world, this situation has its own causes. First, the clearest and first to think of cause is that there are not enough computers for everyone. That statement also breaks up into two causes – too few computers, or too many students. There are about a 100 computers available for students, not counting library computers, and more than 1000 students. Second, there is not enough computer time per student allowed. Ordinary student can use the computer for one and a half hour, while a Software Engineering student can use a computer for three hours (which, of course, makes sense). Third, wrong computer time management is a cause of lack of computers problem. Again, it leads us to two different situations. Students may use their computer time to play games and chat online and be happy, but Get more content on HelpWriting.net
