2. Some historical facts about Russian
national team
• The first national team of the USSR was
founded in 1924. In 1946 the USSR
entered FIFA.
• The best result of USSR’s national team
was the victory in European
championship in 1960. The coach of the

won silver medals in European

was in 1966. Our national team took the
4th place. The coach of the team was N.P.
Morozov.

of the USSR won gold medals twice – in
1956 and in 1988.
• The most prominent Russian football
player was a goalkeeper Lev Yashin.
3. Great preparation
What will the main arena look like?
• Kaliningrad will change its face before the
World Football championship. A lot of new
sport objects will be built in it. At present the
main stadium in Kaliningrad is the local football
club’s arena "Baltika" (capacity - 14 200). It was
built in 1892 and as it turned out the stadium
does not conform to FIFA’s standards. So, it will
be renovated and then it will be used as a
training ground. After the reconstruction a fan
zone will appear at "Baltika".
• A new stadium for 45,015 spectators has not
been started yet, although all the engineering
documents are ready. The project is based on the
concept of the legendary "Allians Arena" the
host of the World Cup 2006 in Germany. It will
be a two-tiered stadium equipped with
ultramodern security systems and video
surveillance.
4. Training centers for the
championship
• Foreign investors are going to build four sport
centers in Kaliningrad region. There will be
sport centers in Rodnikie, Ushakovo, in
Pionerskiy and near Zelenogradsk.
• As for Kaliningrad, its two stadiums “The
Red star” and “Lokomotiv” are going to be
reconstructed and be used as sport training
grounds during the championship.
• All in all, 20 billion rubles will be transferred
to Kaliningrad for new sport constructions.
90% of this sum will be spent on a new
stadium.
• Besides, Khrabrovo airport is going to be
modernized by the championship. A Turkish
building firm “Akyn Ozai” has just started the
reconstruction of the airport.
5. How will Kaliningrad change?
• The government of Kaliningrad region
proposed to rename the city back to Königsberg
before the championship. According to the latest
decision all the street nameplates will be
translated into English.
• FIFA requires to build about 4,000 hotel rooms
in Kaliningrad. It means that there will be built
about 15 new hotels in the city. We are
informed that the authorities of the network of
Polish hotels “Dwor Oliwski” plan to build a
new hotel for the World Cup in Kaliningrad.
The investment into the project could reach 20
million Euros.
• The Russian office in Cambridge will help the
government to prepare volunteers for the 2018
World Cup. They will organize some language
classes for them.
6. Who will coach our team?
Our suppositions.
• Nobody will argue the fact
that the team's success
depends on its coach: a
head coach is responsible
for trainings, encourages
players before games and
supports them after
failures.
• We can only guess who
will coach our football
team in 2018 and here are
some of those who might
be our head coach:
Jose MourinhoMassimiliano Allegri
Fabio
Capello
7. Who will play and
who will we support?
• Since we host the
world championship
in 2018, our team
automatically goes to
this tournament.
• We don’t know what
the staff of our team
will be like but we
imagine it something
like this.
Akinfeev
Burlack Belyaev
Logashov Shennikov
Ozdoev Grigorev
Dzagoev Kokorin Cheryshev
Markov
8. Our own contribution to the championship
From the part of our English teacher
In accordance with the general plan
of 2018 championship construction it
was announced that there would be a
training center on the territory of the
town of Pionerskiy. But later we got to
know that the idea was reconsidered in
favour of Svetlogorsk.
Our English teacher
V.Y.Selunskaya, who is a deputy of the
local Soviet, alongside with other
fourteen deputies applied to the
governor of Kaliningrad region N.N.
Tsukanov in order to discuss the
question once again and to make
Pionerskiy priority. We also collected
our signatures and sent them to the
governor.
The question is now under
governor’s control and we strongly
believe there will be a new stadium in
our town.
9. All fans should keep fit
We are quite sure that there’s no
good team that can do without
good fans. To be good fans we
should train a lot so that to be fit.
We also practice surges and we
thought of a good rhyme:
“We believe in a Russian team
There’s no doubt it will win”
So we are ready to support our
team during all the games.
10. Sensation!
• Our former classmate Peter
Markov has done a lot to make
his dream come true. He’s been
crazy about football since
elementary school. Last year he
made a great progress in FC
“Baltika”.
• This year he’s left for Samara.
He is playing for Samara youth
club at the moment. We hope
Peter will perform in the
national team in 2018 and we
wish him luck.
