  7. 7. UNDECYLENIC ACID ( (UNDECENOIC ACID ©Mr. Pankaj Kusum Ramdas Khuspe Properties: 1. It occurs as colourless or pale brownish dear liquid or white to yellowish white crystalline mass. 2. It has characteristic odour. 3. It is practically insoluble in water. 4. It is miscible In alcohol and chloroform. 5. It is hygroscopic in nature. 6. It is affected by light and moisture. Storage: It should be stored in well closed airtight light resistant container at cool place away from direct sunlight at a temperature between 8°C and 15°C.

Internally, it Is used to treat : (a) psoriasis (b) neurodermatitis. Official preparation: #Undecylenic acid I. P #Compound undecylenle acid ointment.   9. 9. TOLNAFTATE ©Mr. Pankaj Kusum Ramdas Khuspe Properties: 1. It is white to creamy-white powder. 2. It Is odourless. 3. It is practically insoluble In water. 4. It is very slightly soluble in alcohol but 5. It is freely soluble in chloroform. Storage: It should be stored in tightly closed containers, in a cool place or at a temperature.

It is also effective against skin Infections due to epidermophyton spp- and microsporum spp. 4. It is not useful for deep infections of nails or hair follicle but in combination with grlseofulvin. 5. It Is used to treat systemic infections. It is practically Insoluble in water, in alcohol, but 5. It is soluble In di-melhyl sulphoxide and in propylene glycol. Storage: It is stored in well closed airtight light-resistant containers at a temperature of 2°C to 10°C.

It is effective against severe systemic mycotic infections including candidiasis, etc 3. It is used in the treatment of (a) Mucocutaneous and cutaneous leishmaniasis and candidiasis. (b) Primary amoebic meningo-encephalitis. (c) Cryptococcal meningitis In combination with flucytosine. 4. It is used for suppression of oral or intestinal candidiasis.
