2. Existing ProductThe main image of the athlete
jumping into the air with the mouth
open ready to punch really gives a
good effect. The effect is to feel like
the person is about to jump on you
and fight you. this image will have
been taken on a slightly lower front
facing angle. The head being over the
title also plays with the effect of him
jumping out the page. It also give the
reader an insight of what you would
see in a professional cage fight. It also
gives him a look that he has power
over you as he is higher up which
subliminally shows he is above you
with his skills. The shine on his skin
shows the fact of sweat which when
on a fit healthy good looking person
makes women extremely attracted to
them, this makes males that look at
this want to be ripped and strong so
women want them.
The red colour over the white
background can have a few
meanings. One could be the
physical reason that links with the
sport, when MMA fighters go into
the cage it has a white flooring
usually with black writing on it.
After the fight, if the fight was
intense, there would definitely be
blood on the mat. So the red
could symbolise the blood spilt
from the ruthlessness of the
sport.
The second reason can be the
psychological reason for red, e.g.
when people are told to describe
red with an emotion they think of
love, pain and anger. So the red
could easily represent the anger
and pain from the fight, the pain
could result again in blood which
would link to the first reasoning.
The white background could have
just been a simple backing to let
the red writing and black writing
stand out the best it can. It all
depends on whether they
decided on the image or the text
first. So I need to really think
about what I want my image to
be and say and what fonts and
colours will work best.
In the heading the exclamation mark has a little evil/scary looking face this could
be to symbolise the fact in the sport you have to allow a nasty side come out to
be able to fight your opponent. But because it is quite subtle and not all that
scary it sort of gives a comical effect to the front of the magazine
Everything important that the writer wants you to see is in capital letters and
says everything you really need to know and any smaller details are in normal
lower case type. Also all the block text in capitals are the same showing
repetition in the magazine but this is slightly different to the heading so the
heading stands out even more but the same edit and colour is used to link them.

Again on this one it has the uses of
black white and red fonts and
background again like the cage it has
a white flooring with black writing
on it. there would be blood on the
mat. So the red could symbolise the
blood anger and pain. The difference
in this writing it isn’t shown as
aggressive and more softer as the
actual magazine isn’t for sport it’s a
wide range of things, also is
commonly read by women so
instead of large in your face test it’s
a lot more inviting.
Because women are the highest
percentage of women that read this
they don’t want to make Anthony
look scary or intimidating they want
him to look sexy and appealing so
women feel attracted to him and
want to read because they want to
find out more about the ‘hot man’
at the front of the page. If it was him
fighting and looking aggressive that
would be more appealing to men as
men don’t want to look at a hot man
they want to look at the sport
aspect. Most women wouldn’t read
the magazine for the sport side but
would for the sexually attractive
man (depending on your sexuality).
As you can see in this image it
is in a studio but is made to
seem like he wouldn’t be in the
fight but in the changing rooms
after or before the fight which
again will make women appeal
to this magazine more as they
would prefer to look at a
relaxed man instead of one in
an intense fight. The image is
took on a rough wall painted
white you can see that it isn’t a
backdrop on a normal set but
somewhere a different. It isn’t
intruding and taking anything
away from Anthony as it is
white but it connotes with him,
being a rugged and rough as a
fighter and good-looking man.
The black shorts and black
heading really work well into
linking the image with the title
4. Existing Product
The images aren't studio taken which means
they have been taken in action shot, dean
clearly in the images are him being more
dominant in the fight as he is the one
showing the most triumphant
The layout of the double page spread is clean
and crisp, the images line up with the text so
it looks more organized. There is a bold
capitalized headline stating the dean lister so
we know who the spread is about. The colour
profiles uses white as the background which
allows other colours to stand out so the rusty
brown colours stands out for the headline and
the questions that are asked to dean also
match with the headline
5. Existing Product
The images aren't all in boxes. The main
image is taking up most of the left page and
really leaves the effect that he is punching
out the page. The text falls around the
images sculpting to the body of the fighter,
this is a good way to do it if you’re wanting
to have a large picture and lots of text
because it will use all the space up unlike
text boxes.
The use of the heading in the middle makes
the magazine different and separates the
page nicely. The font used is simple yet bold
this would be a good thing for me to look at
as fancy intricate writing wont fit with my
style and also its eye capturing for a sport.
The black writing on the white background is
a good way to make large amounts of text
stand out also allows the images to stand out
as well.
When something is important it is put in
bold writing to show it needs to be seen and
read.
6. Research Analysis
• What common features do the researched products have? They all
have similar colours in them like reds blacks and whites, because
they are fighting magazines the most related colours are red blacks
and whites in that area there is also bold writing on every single
example to make the pages stand out. Another thing that they all
have in common is the aggressive ready to fight look in the images
• What aspects of the research will you include within your own
production work?
– I will be trying to use the similar colours other magazines have used as
the reason the particular colours are used is because there all
associated with MMA. I also would be using the large text and bold
text to show important parts. When I come to taking my images I will
also be making my model fierce and scary as that’s what the whole
sport is about.
8. Audience research
• Observation: I can see that 72.73% who answered were male and 27.27% that
answered were female.
• What this says about my audience: I can see that I have a higher amount of males
answering my survey then females
• How will your product appeal to this audience: this is a good thing to know as my
magazine is mostly a men's magazine so I know the answers I will get will benefit
me to make a good magazine as the males will give me an idea of what they want.
9. Audience research
• Observation: 100.00% of my audience is 16-20
• What this says about my audience: they are all young and will be in education of
some sort at this age
• How will your product appeal to this audience: this will help me as I aimed my

were more prone to read the style of magazine I am wanting to create it also shows some of my
audience don’t like it because there violent but because its only a small percentage I wont take this
into consideration as much
• How will your product appeal to this audience: it wont appeal to a small percentage but other than
that it will appeal to the rest as it will have some images about fighting also it wont be too
aggressive so people that don’t like violence will maybe still want to read it.
11. Audience research
• Observation: 9.09% answered yes 36.36% answered no and 54.55% said maybe
• What this says about my audience: it shows that there is only a small percentage of people who
took the survey actually like the subject I am basing my magazine on, it also shows that they
wouldn’t so I have to think about the majority which is between yes or maybe. I will have to make
sure that the magazine isn’t too engulfed into the sport and shows good images of the fighter for
the one who would maybe read it if they knew the person/ people in it.
• How will your product appeal to this audience: I think my product will appeal to most of my
audience as my magazine will have a good balance of images and writing so even people that prefer
to look who's in it will be interested.
12. Audience research
• Observation:81.82% look for images 18.18% look for the story
• What this says about my audience: majority of my audience will look at the
image/s first over the heading, story and not looking at them. This means I need to
make sure my magazine has good appealing images and a good story with it.
• How will your product appeal to this audience: I think my magazine will meet
there expectations as I already had planned a really good story line and also to do
a good amount of images to look at also.

much a possible with images and text so I can do this and also satisfy my customers as
well
14. Audience
research
• Observation: all my audience don’t want too much to go on they like it simple
• What this says about my audience. I can see from my answers that everyone who
answered do not like too much they want to see what's in it but don’t want to
have to take in a lot or have loads to read about they like it to stand out and be
quick and snappy
• How will your product appeal to this audience: I personally also hate crowded
magazines so I will be making mine simple but informative.
15. Audience research
• Observation:18.18% want a good looking man 81.82% want a man looking scary.
• What this says about my audience: for me this shows that my audience isn't
interested in the person being hot or not they just care about the fighting aspect
• How will your product appeal to this audience: this is good because my product
will also have aggressive men on the front of it as mine is only on fighting.
16. Audience research
• Observation: 18.18% think the magazine should just be for men 27.27% think it
should be for women too and 54.55% think it doesn’t really matter
• What this says about my audience: that m audience would prefer it to have things
for women in it but also don’t mind it being a little more towards men.

MMA it fits perfectly that majority of the people that answered also enjoy MMA.

• What colours would you say work well?
– Red and black.
• What colours do you think of when you think of MMA?
– Gold and black (UFC kind of colours)
• Do you like loads or little in and on the magazine?
– I don't like there to be a lot of detail on magazines as it takes away
from the main stories and main points.
• Would you feel bad about looking at pictures of people hurt?
– No, it's all part of MMA so having a magazine without any of it in

more professional.
