Zimmerman-Laband Syndrome
• First reported in 1928
• Only 39 cases worldwide
• Features:
– abnormalities of the nose and/or ears
– hypoplasia of the nails/terminal phalanges of the
hands and feet
– gingival fibromatosis
– delayed dental eruption
– skeletal anterior open bite
– enlarged palatal rugae
– learning difficulties

Treatment Plan
• Upper sectional fixed appliance
• Lower continuous fixed appliance
• 6mm posterior segmental maxillary
impaction with autorotation of the
mandible
• Finishing orthodontics with upper and
lower continuous archwires
• Retention with upper and lower pressure
formed retainers
