In this article, I would like to present my reflection on three press articles by BBC. My reason for doing so is to seek the readers’ reactions or responses on these issues. As the issue are current realities, it would be good for persons who think, to question and question, to derive to some reasonable understandings of the events around us. Let’s begin by a reflection on Mr Castro Praising Julian Assange.
1. Rajatwit Press Reflections
In this article, I would like to present my reflection on three press articles by BBC. My
reason for doing so is to seek the readers’ reactions or responses on these issues. As the
issue are current realities, it would be good for persons who think, to question and
question, to derive to some reasonable understandings of the events around us. Let’s begin
by a reflection on Mr Castro Praising Julian Assange.
Mr Castro Praises Julian Assange
BBC news dated 16 December 2010, reported that the former Cuban president
praised Julian Assange. He was quoted as saying in an article published by Cuban State
Media that, "Julian Assange, a man who a few months ago hardly anyone in the world had
heard of, is showing that the most powerful empire in history can be defied…"
My question is, can this be a reason why America is hell bound on prosecuting
(seems more like persecuting) Julian Assange. American leadership doesn’t like anybody
defying them, does that sound logical? Maybe, Mr. Castro has hit the nail on its head very
precisely. But at the same time, we have to take Mr. Castro’s praise of Julian Assange with a
little of salt, as all authoritarian personalities have their political motives for whatever they
say. You will see what I mean later.
But history gives us a reflection of mighty empires, one of which was Rome. But the
fall of Rome is a historical lesson that all empires no matter how mighty they are, can fall
due to inhumanity, arrogance, complacency, corruption and self-deceit. The mightier they
are, the harder their fall will be...
America versus Wikileaks + Julian Assange, who seems to be the persecutor and who
seems to be the persecuted?

EU, Freedom of Thought, Wikileaks and Julian Assange
BBC news dated 15 December 2010, reports that “Cuban dissident Guillermo Farinas
has been represented by an empty chair at a ceremony to award him the EU's Sakharov
Prize for Freedom of Thought.”
There are two things to note in this article:
1. Like Liu Xiaobo, Cuba did not allow Farinas to leave Cuba to collect his prize. Does
this remind you about birds of a feather flocking together? Read my article on this
2. topic at: http://www.slideshare.net/rajatwit/political-reactions-and-responses-on-
liu-xiaobo-birds-of-a-feather-flock-together. All authoritarian ruling elites seem to
have a similar mind frames and habits.
2. At the end of the article, “The EU's foreign policy chief, Baroness Ashton, pledged
afterwards that the bloc would continue to press Cuba on human rights issues.”
Now, I want to ask a question. Can EU, including its foreign policy chief, Baroness
Ashton, say that they will speak-up for the freedom of speech as championed by Wikileaks
and Julian Assange? Can EU instead of joining the bandwagon of America on the issue of
Wikileaks and Julian Assange say that they will press America on the freedom of expression?
Is it a coincidence, that Mr. Castro has praised Julian Assange while EU pledged to press
Cuba on human rights? What about joining Mr. Castro and pressing America on the issue of
Wikileaks, Julian Assange and Freedom of expression? What will be EU’s response on this
request?

Afghanistan, A Bleak Picture
Besides Wikileaks and Julian Assange, America is again in the news. BBC news dated
16 December 2010, reported that “Two new assessments are painting a bleak picture of the
US-led war in Afghanistan…” And BBC also reports about official denials and refutations.
Is this news anything new? No. There is nothing new under the sun, when it comes
to America leading a war. All one sees in each war, whether it was Vietnam, Iraq or
Afghanistan is:
Suffering and death of civilian populations across the country,
Uncontrollable violence and injuries,
Destruction of properties and natural environments
Tears, cries of misery and unspeakable pain
Loss of all peace
For all these, America and its leadership have only one answer, its famous “Denials.”
Denials, denials and more denials, the trade mark of American political PR propaganda.
But no matter the denials, reality at the end shows that, all three countries
mentioned would have had a better fate before, if America and its armed forces had not
stepped into these lands. At the end of all American-led wars, there is nothing but suffering,
3. destruction, loss of peace and death. Where and which country, will be the field of
slaughter for the next US-led war?
