My research focuses on understanding how learning works. In the laboratory, I try to understand learning using tools from evolutionary biology, molecular biology, and neuroscience. In the classroom, I try to understand how teachers can teach better so that students learn better. I think that studying learning in model organisms and in humans, we can generate novel ideas about and interventions for impaired learning in humans with disease or mental health problems.
I also really enjoy helping other scientists enhance and extend their research programs. I currently do this by organizing community events and building training programs in computational biology and neuroscience.
