9. Being the
Body of Christ
Would you understand the body of Christ? Hear the Apostle saying
to the faithful: ‘You are the body and members of Christ.’ If, then, you
are Christ’s body and his members, it is your own mystery which you
receive. It is to what you are that you reply ‘Amen,’ and by replying
subscribe. For you are told, ‘The Body of Christ,’ and you reply,
‘Amen.’ Be a member of the body of Christ and let your ‘Amen’ be
true.
St Augustine

John F Kennedy – ask not what your country can do for you, ask what you can do for your country
Do not rush
It is not a matter of efficiency
You only have a moment’s contact
Give each person your undivided attention
It is your role to make the moment of communion as person-al as possible
Don’t speak to the air or the bread or chalice
Hold up the bread or chalice
Wait for the response: “Amen.”
Gently place the bread on the palm or tongue
Be firm and do not rush
Carefully wipe the rim of the cup, then raise eyes to welcome the next communicant
These are our brothers and sisters in Christ
We need to try to be at ease with others
This is both sacrifice and communal meal
The gathering, word, remembering and thanksgiving all lead to this
Comm-UNION
All attention should be focussed on the act of moving and singing together, eating together, experiencing our communion in and with the Lord
Don’t hesitate in coming forward
Don’t wait for the priest if he wanders
Stand back – let priest and servers to their job
Assistance is needed in the sacristy after Mass – especially for consuming remaining wine
