The Secret Ingredient is a talk first developed by Sasha Kazantseva for the Institute of Directors lunch series based on her own journey of self-discovery since becoming a mother and moving to a small island of Guernsey. Sasha asserts that we cannot flourish in business unless we take care of all parts of life, without neglecting health, relationships, fun in exchange for career and personal growth. She set up her first venture in school aged 16 and the entrepreneurial spark never left her. Since then she has worked for Google, L'Oreal and Priceline, co-founded a private start-up accelerator, a green activist group in Russia and launched a mobile game for iOS. At Google, Sasha created or co-founded global award winning campaigns such as the Google Cultural Institute and a big data predictor algorithm for competitions. She is passionate about supporting and promoting startup ecosystems and is involved with projects in Guernsey as a director with Start Up Guernsey, committee member of the Creative Industries Guernsey. Her personal quest is to start 100 ventures in her lifetime and to inspire one billion people to start a business. She has lived and worked in Singapore, Thailand, Mongolia, Russia, UK and Spain and holds a BSc from the London School of Economics and an MBA from INSEAD. She lives in Guernsey with her husband, whom she met climbing Mt Kilimanjaro for charity, and their twin daughters.

I bought a fitness tracker that told me that I don’t move much or sleep
enough! It’s easy not to walk much in Guernsey if you have small
kids and take your car to work.
My mantra is to exercise at least 15 min every day.
Walk up and down stairs.
Sometimes bike into town
Park as far away as possible.
Sometimes just get out of the house and walk around the garden!.
Started running because that’s the easiest and most consistent sport
anyone can keep to.
High Intensity Interval Training – which is more effective and shorter!

Center my food on fresh and cooked vegetables and proteins
Cut gluten based goods to minimum (pastas, pastries, bread)
Cut down on sugar
Drink a lot of water
Don’t drink much alcohol
Eat CHOCOLATE!
Still learning what works for me and what does not!

23. Sleep 8 hours a day
I always thought I was a night-owl until I had small children. I
discovered that the main reason I found it hard to wake up in the
morning is because I always went to sleep after mid-night. I never
slept 8 hours a day. Research showing sleep for kids is key and
reducing sleep even by 15 minutes is affecting their test results.
