Learning about family violence and child abuse has open doors to understanding the long term or
unseen effects of violence and child abuse within the household. For each family violence can be
seen as domestic parental violence or childhood sexual abuse, but either way the outcome is usually
consequential for all parties involved. After viewing the movie "Precious" one can accurately state
that the movie displays multiple effects and examples of family violence and child abuse. But just
like any situation, there are many layers to the movie "Precious" and the charters involved in
shedding lite on the sensitive situation of violence and abuse. The movie "Precious" is centered on
a sixteen year old girl that lives with her mentally and emotionally disturbed mother Mary. Precious
is overweight, insecure, with low self–esteem young girl that has two children that were fathered by
her own biological father, that has been sexually abusing her since the tender age of three years
old. Precious was determined to change her life and pursue an education that will change her life
forever, and that is when "Precious" the movie introduced the viewers to Precious's teacher, Blue
Rain. Mrs. Rain is full of life, and she used that to inspire Precious to learn and live her life.

believe her. This action really affected the child and confused her, making her shy and scared to
confront the problem. Along with violence, poverty, inadequate housing, gender is also another
issue that has become important and associated with child abuse, especially if the parent is single

Child abuse is common in most places and in most cases the abuse form of sexual, mental, and
physical abuse. These children who are usually abused or neglected you have low self–esteem and
have been taught to feel worthless. The percentage of children abuse just in the United States is
drastic. According to an article, more than 2.5 million reports of child abuse are made in the United
States annually with hundreds of deaths.... What this says about the United States is that we need to

According to statistics 12.4 per 1000 children under the age of 17 have been a victim of child
abuse. More than 6 million children are reported as abused in the last year. Sadly the fate of many
of these children that live in abusive homes is death. 1.84 per 100,000 was reported to be abused
in 2012. The number continued to rise to 1.96 in 2014. In the reported cases both or one parent was
the cause of the death 79% of the time. In 16% of the cases a non–parent guardian was the cause of
death. 5% of the deaths were caused by an unknown person.
There are many things that cause parents to abuse their children and there are also many affects
that abuse has on the child being abused. You cannot pinpoint one cause for child abuse, because
parents abuse their children for many different reasons. One reason for the abuse is that the
parents were abused as children. So, this is the only way they know to discipline their children.
Another reason is that the parents are teenagers and not ready for children One more reason for the
abuse is alcohol and substance abuse. The affect that abuse has on children is not only physical but
the abuse affects children on many different levels. When children are abused they are 53% more
likely to commit criminal acts as an adolescent and 40% more likely to commit a crime as an adult.
