Digital storytelling can enhance the learning process: this student-centered activity engages learners in social interaction, collaboration, and cooperation and it builds their awareness of language use, which becomes especially important in foreign language acquisition. E-teaching is an innovative teaching strategy using the e-learning technology to empower both learners and teachers thus providing opportunities for superior learning experiences. The study enhances the education practice of those teachers handling different graduate programs specifically those offered by Lyceum of the Philippines University - Batangas. This study focused on assessing and analyzing the different important factors pertaining to the readiness and inclination of the teachers. This involves introduction of e-teaching on the part of the teachers and e-learning on the part of the graduate students to their respective programs of study. The findings revealed that the graduate school teachers are aware of their vital role in developing effective delivery of instruction and their openness on the active participation in conducting classes in an online learning environment. Also, the university is ready to take the e-teaching program as a mode of instruction for the Graduate School.

On June 17, 2015, the National Coalition for Technology in Education and Training (NCTET) and the Education and Technology and Telecommunications Taskforces of the Consortium for Citizens with Disabilities hosted Seizing Opportunity in the Digital Age: The Intersection of Technology and Special Education, a special event to discuss the intersection of technology and special education. Moderator Alexa Posny (former Assistant Secretary for the Office of Special Education and Rehabilitation Services) discussed how special education teachers have led the way for technology innovation, and Project Tomorrow CEO Julie Evans provided Speak Up 2014 data, focusing on 4,475 special education teachers’ thoughts on digital learning. Featured educator panelists Kate Nagle (The Ivy Mount School, Rockville, MD), Caroline Hill (E.L. Haynes High School, Washington, D.C.), and Angela Foreman (Jamestown Elementary School, Arlington, VA) gave insight into how their schools and classrooms have used technology to advance special education and benefit students with disabilities. This event was made possible by NCTET and the Education and Technology and Telecommunications Taskforces of the Consortium for Citizens, with the live stream provided by Discovery Education.

Retrieval augmented generation (RAG) is the most popular style of large language model application to emerge from 2023. The most basic style of RAG works by vectorizing your data and injecting it into a vector database like Milvus for retrieval to augment the text output generated by an LLM. This is just the beginning. One of the ways that we can extend RAG, and extend AI, is through multilingual use cases. Typical RAG is done in English using embedding models that are trained in English. In this talk, we’ll explore how RAG could work in languages other than English. We’ll explore French, Chinese, and Polish.

Tracing the root cause of a performance issue requires a lot of patience, experience, and focus. It’s so hard that we sometimes attempt to guess by trying out tentative fixes, but that usually results in frustration, messy code, and a considerable waste of time and money. This talk explains how to correctly zoom in on a performance bottleneck using three levels of profiling: distributed tracing, metrics, and method profiling. After we learn to read the JVM profiler output as a flame graph, we explore a series of bottlenecks typical for backend systems, like connection/thread pool starvation, invisible aspects, blocking code, hot CPU methods, lock contention, and Virtual Thread pinning, and we learn to trace them even if they occur in library code you are not familiar with. Attend this talk and prepare for the performance issues that will eventually hit any successful system.
