Hamlet Character Analysis
Hamlet is arguably one of the most complex characters created to date. From the beginning of the
famous Shakespearean play, Hamlet demonstrates his enigmatic and life–like personality. He is
filled with intelligence, loyalty, and strategic ability, but is also cursed with depression, rage, self
hatred, and an inability to act. These are the qualities that helped Shakespeare construct such a
realistic persona while also leading the beloved prince of Denmark to his untimely death.
Sometimes, while analyzing this popular play, Hamlet's good qualities get swept under his madness.
For example, his level of intelligence gets far less attention than it deserves. Aside from excelling
at the University of Wittenberg, the most prevalent case of his strong intellect is when he
successfully convinced everyone in the kingdom that he was crazy. By doing so, Hamlet knew that
Claudius would be thrown off and not catch on to the fact that he knew of the King's crime. Proof
that this was Hamlet's plan all along is in 1, 5, 170–182 where Hamlet says, "Here, as before, never,
so help you mercy, How strange or odd soe'er I bear myself (As I perchance hereafter shall think
meet To put an antic disposition on), That you, at such times seeing me, never shall– With arms
encumbered thus, or this headshake, Or by pronouncing of some doubtful phrase, As "Well, well,
we know," or "We could an if we would," Or "If we list to speak," or "There be an if they might," Or

exhibits his strategic ability and the method behind his madness. Another good quality Hamlet
shows is his loyalty. When asked by his deceased father to avenge his death, Hamlet, who always
loved his father, immediately agreed and eventually carried out this daunting task. Most people
would turn a blind eye and pretend as if the ghost was all in their head, but he was so loyal to his
father that he felt it was his duty to carry through with the deed.
Of course Hamlet wasn't made up of all good qualities, in fact most of his were negative, depression

Neighboring on, her character is well–developed from the narrator's memories due to her dominant
position in Tom's life. Several times, during the show, Tom recalls his mother's flashbacks to her
youth in "Blue Mountain with seventeen gentlemen callers" (Williams 24). Hence, her constant
nostalgia for the past presents her as a traditional thinking woman who is unable to come to terms
with the reality of the present. Moreover, Amanda's feelings of disappointment from her past allows
the audience to identify well with her the most. When she constantly looks at "a blown–up
photograph of the father [her husband]" because she is unable to overcome her desire for a
whirlwind romance, which dramatically characterizes her as an unsatisfied and regretful person. Her
situation allows for audience members to empathize since it is common for people to wish they
could go back in time and rectify their past mistakes. Overall, the character of Amanda Wingfield is
a viable candidate for the central character of this play because her influence drives the action of the
play.
In like manner to his mother's effect, the influence and parallels of Tom's character in the play makes
him a potential candidate for the protagonist. To be specific, Tom's experience as a shoe factory
worker alludes to the author's disheartening and nerve–wracking experience as a sales clerk at a

Iron Man Character Analysis Essay
Tony Stark's Character Growth in Iron Man In the beginning of Iron Man, the main protagonist,
Tony Stark, was generally a bad person. He was an extreme example of the celebrity stereotype––
flashy, arrogant, self–absorbed, and rude. Stark took personal honors, as well as relationships with
others, for granted. But that all changed when Stark was kidnapped by a terroristic rebel group.
During his time as a prisoner, Tony saw what horrors his technology could be used for, and later
escaped captivity humbled and changed. From the moment he returned, Stark's character started

Oftentimes these extremely powerful weapons ended up in the wrong hands, like insurgents. When
Tony's convoy was attacked, a rocket lodged into the ground in front of him, bearing the inscription
of Tony's own corporation. Upon his return, having seen the horrors of his weaponry firsthand,
Stark set out to right the wrongs. At his first press conference after coming home, Tony said, "I saw
young Americans killed by the very weapons I created to defend them and protect them. And I saw
that I had become part of a system that is comfortable with zero–accountability". (Iron Man) He then

the finish of his Audi R8 than the fate of the free world unless it benefitted him. Taking a
completely different direction, Tony used his Iron Man suit to pursue those who wrongfully used
Stark Industries weapons. Stark even stated, "I shouldn't be alive... unless it was for a reason. I'm
not crazy, Pepper. I just finally know what I have to do. And I know in my heart that it's right". (Iron

In the book The Wave by Todd Stasser you get the story of how a school project turned into
something much bigger. In the book you get to see characters develop over time. There's some
examples between two of the characters: Ben Ross and Laurie Saunders. All of these examples are
from the book. So let's get into analyzing! The first character we are going to analyze is Ben Ross,
the history teacher of Laurie's school. The first example of character from Ben is when the book
said, "Ben had not meant to shock them, but he'd known that the film would." (pg. 11) This is an

Characters are a significant, if not the most important component of a story. They express the
emotions of relatable people, and are used by the author to influence readers to support their own
desired conclusion. Many people discuss the characters in a short story or novel, but don't actually
read for characterization. Reading for character is a higher–level skill because "analyzing
characterization is more difficult than describing plot, for human character is infinitely complex,
variable, and ambiguous" (Arp 161). Like in most interpretive fictional stories, Susan Glaspell's short
story "A Jury of Her Peers," the reader sees richness in the characterization of three women: Minnie
Foster Wright who is accused of murdering her husband, Mrs. Hale who is Minnie's childhood friend,

In the movie, Twelve Angry Men, all of the characters have their own specific personalities. Jurors 1
through 12 all have gone through different life situations and come from different beginnings. On a
certain level, the jurors are all connected to each other in one way or another. That would be the

Will–power and determination plays a major role when it comes to people accomplishing goals
and performing the tasks they are given. When a person possesses these two qualities they are

Bartleby The Scrivener Character Analysis
The narrator of "Bartleby, the Scrivener" is a lawyer who is serious about his work and made it
his first priority. His assistant Bartleby was a hard worker at first, however, he was distant and did
not open up to people as much as he should've. This lead to conflict between Bartleby and the
narrator. Melville makes the lawyer always ignore his issues which made him unable to directly
confront his problems with Bartleby. Nonetheless, the narrator felt like he had this responsibility to
look after Bartleby but him being too concerned with himself got in the way of that. After observing

Don't Pick Your Flowers Before They Bloom
Eliza Doolittle of Pygmalion by George Bernard Shaw, is first introduced in Covent Garden with an
impression that isn't easy to forget. Her slanged language and persistent personality make her a
notable character in literature. As she comes under the wing of professor Henry Higgins, she learns
simple etiquette and improved phonetics. However, Higgins' crude demeanor causes Eliza to violate
the pillars of respect and responsibility, though she continuously complies with the trustworthiness
pillar of character. The six pillars of character–trustworthiness, respect, responsibility, caring, fairness
and citizenship–are the framework of a good character with ethics and kindness.
To start, Eliza Doolittle of Pygmalion violates the pillar of respect. Charactercounts.org states that a
part of the pillar of respect is to "Treat others with respect; follow the Golden Rule." The Golden
Rule can be simply stated as treating others the way you would like to be treated. Eliza wanted
this civil treatment from Higgins, but when it came down to her actions, she was rather rude to
him. She clearly disrespects and threatens Higgins by exposing his lie to the public. "I'll advertize
it in the papers that your duchess is only a flower girl that you taught, and that she'll teach
anybody to be a duchess just the same in six months for a thousand guineas." (Act V). It's
hypocritical of her to treat Higgins with disrespect, when just a few minutes ago she was pleading

good character should "Use good manners, not bad language." But Eliza's exposure to Higgins' crass
choices of words has majorly influenced her to speak fouly as well. In Act III, when Eliza visits Mrs.

How Is Josie Treated Like A Bird In A Cage
When a bird is put into a cage, it feels trapped. Even if it wants to leave, it can't. All of it's
decisions have already been made for them. When it tries to speak out, we shut it up. In the book
Out of the Easy by Rupa Sepetys, Josie, the main character, was treated like a bird in a cage,
trying to escape and always trying to seek help. The decisions her mom made impacted her more
than the decisions Josie made for herself. Since her mom was labeled as a "whore" or "a
prostitute", Josie was thought of that as well. But Josie turned her situation around, she had a
willingness and such strive to get out of her rusty cage, her miserable town; she didn't let her past
affect her future.
The problem of this story was Josie's mom, who caused Josie to be judged everyday by the cruel
society outside her home. She was an evil piece of work and one of the most self–centered people
ever. On page 37 Willie, the owner of the brothel, says, "She wasn't born with your compass so she
wanders around, bumping into all sorts of walls." This is showing that Jo's mom has made a lot of
mistakes in her life, and decisions that only benefitted her, unlike Jo. Willie knows that Jo is smart.

even though she made her life miserable, this character, Jesse, always found a way to help Josie

Characterization is an important component in short story writing. In the short story "Lamb to the
Slaughter" written by Roald Dahl, we are introduced to Mary Maloney, a pregnant housewife who
recently found out that her husband is going to leave her. Mary develops into a very complex
character as the events of the short story unfold. Mary is a typical housewife, waiting on her husband

Mary is very manipulative in that she is able to create the character of the poor, pregnant wife,
whose husband has just been murdered. She is able to convince the police to take pity on her, to
mix her a drink and then to even eat the evidence, the leg of lamb that she has left in the oven.
"Why don't you eat up that lamb that is in the oven" (Dahl, p. 17). Mary realizes that if the police
find the evidence she will go to jail. Her quick thinking and manipulative character results in the
police officers eathign the evidence and therefore she cannot be charged of this crime. These actions
show the complex character that Mary Maloney truly is.
Throughout the entire story, Mary is a very interesting character. She faces many issues in dealing
with her husband's news that he is leaving her. She reacts based on her instincts and kills her
husband and this shows her cold heartedness. In the end she has to create an alibi to cover up her
devious crime in which she has to manipulate the police into eating the evidence. Mary is a very
unique complex character and she has, through her actions conducted a devious crime in which she
will be proven innocent. Through the use of Many Maloney's character, as well as irony and
suspense, the author was able to maintained the interest of the reader throughout the entire short
story.

Harry Potter Character Analysis
Harry Potter is one of the most widely known heroines in all of literature,
But what makes him so special. He has many defining character traits that makes him a hero.
Such as being brave, kind and, determined. The books address many times however we will only be
taking from the second novel, The chamber of secrets. In this essay we will explain why he was put
into gryffindor in the first place. We will also cover examples of his heroic traits in the specific book
the chamber of secrets also. In this essay I will show you exactly how Harry Potter
Is brave and also kind to others and how he is determined to finish the task at hand at all costs.
The first adjective I stated was the factor of Harry Potter being brave.
If I were to only have to choose adjective to describe Harry Potter it would be just that, "Brave".
There are many instances of Harry Potter being brave in the novels. In chamber of secrets however
there seems to be more instances of bravery than any other novel in my opinion.
Being brave has a lot more to do than you just standing up to your fears. It has many other
complications like standing up for something that you think is right when others tell you to stand
down. Bravery is doing things that others would not. With those statements of bravery let's prove
how Harry Potter shows traits of bravery in the chamber of secrets. In chapter fifteen, "Aragog",
Harry stays on the trail when Ron wants to leave yelling "No Ron we have to get this done". He
shows bravery by staying in the forest when fear overtakes his body. He also shows bravery in
chapter sixteen, "The chamber of secrets", when he fights and kills the basilisk to stop Tom
Riddle from killing Ginny Weasley by "Throwing his whole weight into the sword and plunging
the sword into the roof of the basilisk's mouth. Those are all instances of bravery and shows just
how brave Harry Potter is in the second novel, "The chamber of secrets". The second word I would
use to describe Harry Potter is being kind.
Being kind is a good trait to have not only just in heroines but in all humans alike. Harry Potter
shows many instances of kindness throughout all of the novels. Before we go into Harry's kindness

Lord Of The Rings Character Analysis
The film, The Lord of the Rings displays many occurrences of the three stages of faith,
"Childhood", "Adolescent", and "Adult" throughout the movie. An example of the childhood
stage is when Bilbo was talking to Gandalph about adventuring beyond the shire once again and
Bilbo then says, "I'd take Frodo on my adventure but I'm afraid he's still in love with the shire."
This is a clear example of the childhood stage of faith because the childhood stage is a time when
someone has no true beliefs and values yet and all of their beliefs and values are based off of the

This past quote shows Gandalph being open to truth because he is trying to gain a deeper
understanding about the ring. An example of the heart level in The Lord of the Rings is in the end of
the movie when Frodo leaves on his boat by himself to go to Mordor to destroy the ring and Sam
chases after him it is a clear example of the heart level, in the movie it states, "'No Sam, I'm going
to Mordor alone.' 'Well not without me!'...'I made a promise Mr. Frodo, don't you leave him
Samwise Givens, don't you leave him.'" The heart level of faith is all about being open to giving
and receiving love. Sam shows a deep love for Frodo by telling him that there is no way that he
can go without him on his adventure therefore displaying Sam's openness to love and his

Throughout the novel you can see her other acts of care, such as when she takes 12 year old Rue
under her wing in the middle of the games, and also how she refuses to leave Peeta when he is
injured. "I can almost hear Haymitch groaning as I team up with this wispy child. But I want her.
Because she's a survivor, and I trust her, and why not admit it? She reminds me of Prim" (pg 201). In
this quote the author Suzanne Collins is showing that Katniss is teaming up with Rue, rather than
