Hi, I’m Amy White, RiverXchange Program Manager. Every year we try to make RiverXchange wikis a little easier for you to manage, so there are some changes from the way it worked last year (hopefully for the better). This presentation is designed so that you can do the tasks on your own wiki as you follow along. You just need to resize this window to take up about half your screen, then open another browser window so that you can do things over there while you are watching the presentation.
If you haven’t already logged into your wiki, here’s how to get started. PBWorks sends you an email when we create your wiki. You have to go through the link in this email to create your username and password. If you can’t just click the link in the email, you can copy the link and then paste it into a web browser to go to the page. The link only works once, but you can always go to the wiki address and click request access to have it send another email.
This is the same process your students will go through when they write about the different units on their own wiki pages.
Be sure to click Save! If you navigate away from this page with out saving these changes will be lost.
The next thing we are going to look at is the Student Behavior Guidelines. To view this file go to the navigation toolbar and scroll down until you see “Student Behavior Guidelines.” We will discuss how to monitor what your students’ comments are a bit later.
This is the same as your “home page” on a browser.
Don’t be afraid to click around and see what might already be posted by your partner.
You will need to have the photos on your computer and know where they are before you begin this exercise.
You may add text below the photo as well.
We will cover how students login shortly.
Try to keep track of this document but if you do loose it we have a copy of the passwords.
This is the same as how you updated the main wiki page at the beginning of the training. Note that students can edit each others pages. You may or may not want to let your students know this but just be aware that it is possible.
Remember the comments are just that – comments. Any real information such as writing assignments for each unit should be done on the student’s wiki page. Also, remind students to use good social skills. If their partner asked them a question, they should answer it.
If you need to delete a comment go find the comment and click on the ????. You must confirm this action as well.
