  3. 3. Technology • GPON: Gigabit Passive Optical Network is ITU-T G.984 standard • It is an access method transported by optical fiber, FTTx. Is a point to multipoint access, one central point can reach from 32 to 128 premises. There are only two types of equipments the OLT (central) and the ONT’s (in customer premises) • The other important part is the splitter, it is a passive splitter that divides the signal as needed

  5. 5. Technology • The ONT’s can vary according to what segment they are intended to cover, residential, enterprise, triple play. That is why usually for example for Enterprise the ONT can have several E1 ports to connect a PBX and one Ethernet to have data access • The speed of the GPON ONT is a maximum of 1 Gbps DL and 1 Gbps UL, each GPON port have 2,5 Gbps DL and 1 Gbps UL but is has to be distributed along the ONT’s and generally is used over booking in order to use more efficiently the technology • The latest new technology is 10GPON which increments the speed of the link to 10Gbps DL and 2,5 Gbps UL

Competition Analysis Diverse Market many manufactures the main ones are: Alcatel-Lucent ISAM 7342 FTTU Alcatel-Lucent’s ISAM 7342 FTTU platform has enabled the company to become a top contender in the global FTTP market, with more than 100 customers to date, including Verizon, France Telecom, Hong Kong Broadband and Australia’s NBN, Chunghwa Taiwan, Finland government Huawei MA5600T Huawei remains #1 in the global FTTP/GPON markets on the strength of its MA5600T OLT, which offers a very hard-to-beat price/performance proposition, especially when combined with Huawei’s rapid product development/customer support capabilities. Deployments in Etisalat, BT, Portugal Telecom, Claro Argentina
  7. 7. Competition Analysis ZTE ZXA10 C300 ZTE has caused quite a stir with its new ZXA10 C300 platform, which it touts as supporting 3.2 Terabits of backplane capacity. ZTE offers a complete FTTx solution. Deployments in Telkom Indonesia, Telecom Italia, THEO Lituania, RDS &RCS Romania, Ericsson EDA 1500 Ericsson’s EDA 1500 features very strong throughput-per-slot metrics, as well as a 3.2 Terabit total capacity, but for Ericsson to reach its goal of being a top-three vendor in the GPON market. Deployment in China Unicom, Bangladesh, AT&T, Cyprus (Greece)
