3. Château Laleard , Background The Chateau Laleard and its 3.5 hectares (approx 7 acres) of grounds has a rich history stretching back over many centuries, if not millennia. The site was originally occupied by the Romans and then, in the 11th century, a defensive tower within a castle complex was built to protect the local land owner. The Chateau still carries the term ‘castle’ in many documents. Some 25 years ago the Chateau was converted and developed in to a ‘hotel touristic’ which has now ceded. During the great storm of 1999 the Chateau lost over 13000 sqm of roofing, all of which has now been replaced. We are now adding to the rich tapestry of the site and surrounding area with a loving restoration and sympathetic subdivision of this rambling complex, including the installation of some new key structures, adding stature, structure and integrity to this classic building complex. The Country Club will deliver classic French hospitality, outdoor pursuits, with at least 50 boutique managed suites, houses and hospitality facilities.
