• The holiday season is also for giving to the
poor and needy.
• Many people give food, clothes, and toys to
people in need who have no money for the
holidays.
Holiday Celebrations
• In the USA, the biggest holidays to
celebrate are Hanukkah, the Jewish
holiday of 8 days, and Christmas, the
Christian holiday that lasts for one day.
• Many people who are not religious still
celebrate Christmas, as it has become so
popular for everyone.
Hanukkah
• Hanukkah is celebrated on the 25th day of the Jewish
calendar, which can be in November or December. It is
different every year.
Hanukkah
• The menora is a tradtional way to celebrate, and
one candle is lit each night of Hanukkah.
• Children get gifts on each day of Hanukkah.
• They celebrated by lighting a candle, and thought it
would last for one night, but it lasted for 8 nights.
• So now, Hanukkah is a “Festival of Lights” and lasts
for 8 days.
Christmas
• Christmas is celebrated on December 25th.
Christmas is the holiday celebrating the birth
of Jesus Christ for Christians. There are many
songs and stories that tell what happened
when he was born.
Christmas
• But, most of the people in the USA
celebrate Christmas even if they are not
religious.
• Today, Christmas has become a celebration
of more than just this story, and it is a time
to be with family, share presents, and sing
songs.

bring presents on Christmas morning.
• He rides in a sleigh pulled by magical reindeer
that fly him to every home.
Santa Claus
• The story says he climbs down the chimney
of every home, and loves cookies and milk.
So children leave him cookies and milk on
the fireplace on the night before, and it is
always gone by Christmas morning.
Santa Claus
• Santa also fills up stockings on the
fireplace with small gifts like candies
and toys.

on huge displays of lights outside homes.
• Some neighborhoods will all decorate so
