2. The BBFC are a non-government funded
organisation that provide age ratings for all
films available to the U.K.
They are funded purely by the Film industry.
They are required to classify all films and some
games in the U.K.
3. These are all of the age ratings the BBFC
provide all films.
4. •No discriminative language or abuse unless disapproved of.
•No reference to illegal drugs or drug abuse, unless there is a clear educational
purpose.
•Scary sequences should be mild, breif, and unlikely to cause undue anxiety
towards children.
•No potentially dangerous actions likely to be copied by children.
•Very infrequent use of bad language.
•Occasional nudity, no sexual context.
•Mild sexual behaviour (e.g. Kissing)
•Mild Violence only. Occasional menace is allowed
5. Discriminatory language/behaviour may not be accepted, unless
there is a clear educational purpose.
References to illegal drugs/drug misuse may only be accepted if
there is a subtle anti-drug message.
Frightening scenes must be short, and not intense.
No detail of potentially dangerous behaviour that young children
are likely to follow.
Mild bad language only.
Natural nudity, no sexual content.
Sexual activity must be discreet
Moderate violence, without detail may be allowed.
6. 12A means under twelve’s may watch, as long as accompanied by an
adult.
Aggressive discriminative language/behaviour is unacceptable unless
infrequent and mild.
Any reference to drugs must be mild and not glamorised.
Minimal physical and mental threat may be permitted.
Dangerous behaviour must not dwell on being copied, or being pain-free
(e.g. Hanging/suicide).
Mild bad language is allowed, and very bad language must be infrequent.
Nudity is allowed, and sexual content must be discreet and infrequent.
Moderate violence is allowed, but must not dwell on detail.
7. The work as a whole must not endorse discriminatory
behaviour/language.
Drug use may be shown, but must not endorse or glamorise it.
Strong threat and menace are permitted, unless sexualised.
Dangerous behaviour can be shown, but must not dwell on being
copied.
There may be a frequent use of bad language. The strongest terms
may be acceptable if clearly justified.
Nudity may be allowed, but not in detail.
Sexual activity may be shown, in little detail.
Violence may be strong, but must not show pain or detail.
8. Anything is allowed, as long as it does not
simulate dangerous/sexual acts.
9. May only be viewed in licensed cinemas, or sold in licensed sex
shops.
Any material in breach of the law is not accepted (e.g. Rape/
paedophilia etc.)
