5. 7 Steps to Success: DEAR not SDASU Step Two: Whole College have DEAR on same day Whole College Drops Everything And Reads..... Including Admin; Technicians.... And College Leaders! Get a whole ‘atmosphere’ going, allow for habit forming. This will also allow for: splitting groups by KS or Gender. Share a girlie book with just the girls, or a boyish book with just the lads. Or something nice and easy with KS3 and something ‘dangerous’ with KS4
6. 7 Steps to Success: DEAR not SDASU Step Three: Read Out Loud As a Tutor you can easily model reading. Have the DEAR Homepage extract on a screen so tutees can follow along and discover “Oh, that’s how you say that word” OR/AND Read a whole book over a term. –Your choice... Their choice? OR/AND Allow buddy reading, borrow a set of Books from the MRC for group reading. Click to watch the video

8. 7 Steps to Success: DEAR not SDASU Step Five: Create a College Book Wall Find a Display area for creating a Book Wall which can include: Author profiles; Book reviews; Get caught Reading photos; Polls; Quotes; Themed by Genre; Front Cover Designs; Display run by different tutor group each month/term.
9. 7 Steps to Success: DEAR not SDASU Step Six: Accept your invitation to visit the MRC Okay, so you won’t all be able to spend time with visiting Authors like the top four borrowing Tutor groups did in June. But your tutor group will be invited to spend time browsing in the MRC. Many students complain that they don’t get enough time to just explore the books in the MRC.
