An earthquake of magnitude 7.6 occurred off the coast of Hong Kong on July 7th, triggering tsunami warnings for the Kermadec Islands of New Zealand. The earthquake occurred at a depth of 20km below the seafloor. Tsunami warnings were issued by monitoring centers for New Zealand, Tonga, and the Kermadec Islands as a precaution, though the first waves detected were between 60cm to 1m and little damage was reported overall. Coastal regions were advised not to approach the sea due to potential tsunami danger.
