The Design focus of the Caracas Convention Center was to create a multifunctional building to be
located between La Rinconada (Existing Sport and Concert Center) and El Cienpies Hwy (Main
access hwy) in the city of Caracas. This was a very important element of Caracas as this South Side
redevelopment program would enable the center to host some of the largest concerts, corporate training
seminars and conventions in Venezuela.

A key component of the Center was the
glass and Air opening gaps allowing light
and air to filter through with variable
intensity. Another significant component
of the Caracas Convention Center
included movable seating and walls and
removable flooring which increased the
number of usable days of the center and
the number and variety of events it can
accommodate.

FIRST PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH, DESIGN COMPETITION
First Presbyterian Church needed a new, larger facility to provide enhanced children’s ministry
and community outreach opportunities. The design also needed to incorporate the
congregation’s theatrical activities. To accomplish this they turned it in to a Design
Competition. The principal focus was to create a spacious lobby and welcome center and to
include a grand café area adjacent to the open space in the sanctuary area of the building.

room with direct
access from the
existing church
building.

Dr. Balart Residence
La lagunita, Caracas,

This modern small house stands among the valleys of La Lagunita in Caracas, Venezuela.
The interior of this house was designed with clean lines while creating a minimalist style. The local
geography and climate was a large part of the design. Open spaces were created to allow more
natural lighting and air to flow into the rooms. I based my ideas of this modern house on simple
interior so as to complement the stunning views.
Slato Residence, RS-Soterm

The house named Casa de SLATO stands among valleys of Oripoto in Caracas, Venezuela.
The home stands on uneven terrain therefore I used weight distribution to balance out the “slope”.
A large amount of glass was used to create ambience with natural lighting. The spacious interior, the
exterior brick finished walls and the natural wood throughout kept the surrounding natural elements in
unity with the home.

A & P Cottage (RS-Elements)
Rosemary Beach, Florida, USA (2002-2004)
The owners intended for this beach house to be a reminder of their youth, where the accommodations were more “shacks”
than “houses”. The house would express it’s beauty through it’s function, materials and simple organization. The town of
Rosemary Beach dictated that the project’s success was based in being part of a greater whole. The fact that the house
had to fit within predetermined design guidelines brought about a solution that celebrates these requirements and makes
them a springboard to dynamic design.
Kelly House/Cottage (RS-Elem ents)

This is the private retreat of the owners who have a larger, second residence on the property. The first floor contains
garage space for the main home. The second floor and loft provide the primary living space of the building. The living areas
provide a gathering space, full kitchen, office area and master bedroom. The majority of interior finishes are from reclaimed
products, such as dead-head or sinker cypress. The carriage house was designed to reflect the design of the initial home,
which was the first main residence constructed in Rosemary Beach and holds significant architectural importance.
