1. Understanding Diabetes
Course Description:
This course will give carers and support workers an up to date Understanding of
Diabetes and to enable them to effectively plan and deliver person centred care to
individuals living with the condition.
Theoretical knowledge is applied to the care setting through the use of video clips,
discussions, case studies, quizzes and a care planning activity
Course Outline:
• Introduction to Diabetes
• Normal blood sugar control and the role of insulin
• Risk factors, causes, signs, symptoms, diagnosis and treatment of Type 1 and Type 2
Diabetes
• Recognising and managing hypoglycaemia and hypoglycaemia
• Facts and myths about Diabetes
• Long term complications of Diabetes and how to manage them
• Person centred planning and care for individuals living with Diabetes
Course Duration:
3hrs
Assessment:
Throughout the course the learners will be expected to take part in discussions,
activities and question and answer sessions to enhance their learning experience. The
session includes a quiz on “Facts and Myths about Diabetes”. At the end of the course,
learning will be consolidated through the use of case studies and a care planning
activity.

All delegates will receive a certificate of attendance
