• Here’s a more formal definition - Social
media listening, also known as social media
monitoring, is the process of identifying and
assessing what is being said about a
company, individual, product or brand on
the Internet

What is Social Media Intelligence
• All your analysis becomes intelligence when you are
able to derive insights and take them as input to
decision making
• Here’s a more formal definition - Social media
intelligence (SMI or SOCMINT) refers to the collective
tools and solutions that allow organizations
to monitor social channels and conversations,
respond to social signals and synthesize social data
points into meaningful trends and analysis based on
the user's needs
• The term was coined in a 2012 paper written by Sir
David Omand, Jamie Bartlett and Carl Miller for the
Centre for the Analysis of Social Media, at the
London-based think tank, Demos - wikipedia
