•Gender inequality is the way societies make a
distinction between men and women and their
distribution of rights and power.
•“UNESCO believes that all forms of
discrimination
on the basis of gender are violations of human
rights, and a significant barrier to peace,
sustainable development and the achievement
of all internationally recognized development

Background: Facts and Figures on Gender
 Inequalities
Women provide 70% of agricultural support, produce
over 90% of food, but are not represented in budget
deliberations.

More than 70% are homemakers in Nepal.

Women comprise only 10 % of the world’s economy in
terms of asset holding and own less than 1 % of the land
and real estate.

“May you be the parents of a hundred sons” is a
common Hindu blessings.

No female teachers, high mortality

of women and widow problem.

Sunita Basnet from Eastern part of Nepal. Her
mother and neighbors suggest, “When you grow
up you should be soft like a doll. Your husband will
dominate and control you so you aren’t allow to
go against her in any matter what goes wrong.
You cannot go outside without his permission.
You shouldn’t burst out in laughter because you
are a women.”
        WHAT THIS SUGGESTION IS TO

  Beliefs
In Nepal there is still prevalence of evil
social beliefs.
Society believe that giving birth to son is a
easy path to heaven after death.
Birth of girl is taken as god curse or low
prestige in society.
The birth of son is celebrated but the birth of
a daughter is filled with pains.
Sons are to be showered with more love,
respect, better food and proper health care.

Boys are encouraged to be tough and outgoing
but girls should to be homebound and shy.

Women high mortality rate caused by domestic
violence, abortions and other improper health care.
In some parts of our country due to low girls birth
rate, marriage is rare.

Low wage payments to women than to
men.

political sectors.
Women are treated as witch or bad omen in under-

Women empowerment by promoting skillful
programs, trainings, proper education, etc.
Spreading awareness programs in different parts
of the country.

Media should and can play major role against old
social beliefs and thinking of people
Women should raise voice against girl trafficking,
girl child labour, sex violence, traditional social
cruelty activities, etc

Government should preserve equal distribution of
rights and power to women e.g. by authority &
financial help

Conclusion
Gender inequality is a big social problem to be
solved. It has made women difficult to live
freely in family, society & in country. It has
ruined life of thousands women. The causes
should be eradicated & equality should be
maintained among male & female.

   We know that man & women are of equal potential &
    capacity to do any kind of work.




   Women like Pratibha Patil who became the first
    women president of India has proved their power to
    lead the nation. So, we recommend to everyone to

Social Beliefs In Nepal there is still prevalence of evil social beliefs. Society believe that giving birth to son is a easy path to heaven after death. Birth of girl is taken as god curse or low prestige in society. The birth of son is celebrated but the birth of a daughter is filled with pains. Sons are to be showered with more love, respect, better food and proper health care.
