2. Questionnaire results and data interpretation Firstly, I asked 20 students aged between 14-20 years old to fill out my student magazine survey. They all did this independently and anonymously to ensure that the responses were honest and not influenced by other people’s decisions. After that, I analysed their feedback and created visual charts so that the results are easy to read and compare which allowed me to comprehend the views of my target audience. I achieved this by putting my results onto Microsoft Excel, where I was able to construct charts using the information I had obtained from my questionnaire. Next, I copied the charts onto Microsoft Powerpoint to create a presentation to conclude the results. In addition I have written a brief summary underneath each question describing my findings and explaining how I will incorporate my audience feedback into my music magazine. Finally, I uploaded the powerpoint to SlideShare so I could attach it to my blog.
3. It is clear from this bar chart that the most popular genre of music that people listen to is pop and dance music. I will use this information and choose to create a magazine that focuses on pop/chart and dance music which will obviously appeal to my target audience the most.
4. The pie charts above illustrate that although the majority of people have read a music magazine, under half of those people read one regularly. This could be for a variety of reasons. One reason could be that the sample of people who filled out my questionnaire were students, therefore they may not have enough money to purchase a music magazine on a regular basis. Another possible reason could be that my target audience may read other magazines more often than ones specifically for music. However out of the 7 people that regularly read a music magazine 3 of them read ‘mixmag’ and 2 of them read ‘Top of the Pops’ therefore I will use these magazines as inspiration.
5. It is essential for every institution to make as much money as possible in order for the business to be profitable. It is therefore important to carefully consider pricing. From the results of my questionnaire I can see that most people would be willing to pay £2-£2.99, for that reason I have decided to price my magazine at £2.40 because it is a value in the preferred price range and is in accordance with existing music magazines currently on the market.
6. It is vital to establish what my potential consumers would be interested in reading in a music magazine with the aim of producing a magazine that was going to sell to my target audience. The questionnaire required the choice from a list of articles to interest readers the most. My results showed that interviews, fashion spreads and celebrity gossip were the most popular therefore I will ensure that I advertise these features on the front cover and include them on the contents page because they clearly appeal to my target audience.
7. The results above show how important the appearance of a magazine is when encouraging people to buy it. 15 people out of 20 felt that the appearance of a music magazine is an important factor that they consider when purchasing a magazine therefore I will ensure that the magazine cover looks good and appropriate to the target audience and music genre. The next most popular answers were the cover artist and articles from the front cover, consequently I will try to take that into consideration when constructing my front page. Other things which people said would encourage them to buy a music magazine included free gifts, bright front cover and posters inside.
8. This question highlighted the importance of free gifts when selling a music magazine. My selected target audience are obviously influenced by free gifts with the most popular being free CDs or Posters. These type of gifts are commonly used to assist in marketing magazines and subsequently it is something I will seriously consider when creating my own music magazine.
9. This question shows how my target audience choose to listen to music and therefore what aspects I will consider promoting when creating my music magazine. The most popular methods of listening to music are iPods/MP3/MP4 Players and CDs therefore I may decide to advertise and write reviews of CD albums/singles more than gigs/concerts which was less popular.
