Why La Loche and Clearwater? • Canadian Oral Health Framework (2012) – “Aboriginals have decay rates 2-3 times greater than non-Aboriginals” • Public Health Agency of Canada Inequalities in Oral Health in Canada: Inability to chew • “First Nations off reserve & Metis people 1.5 -1.7 x prevalence for inability to chew” • Lack of water fluoridation and safe water • Restrictions of hunting and fishing rights and increase in Western high sugar diets • Low health literacy • No insurance coverage • High costs of nutritious foods • Sask. Dental Health Screening Program Report (2013- 2014) – Highest decay rates in all of Canada – Over twice the amount in Regina – Lowest rate of receiving dental care in Sask.

Process of Care • Some pre-assessments done ahead of time but most were done over the 3 days in portable chairs – Digital sensor used – Used SHA charts – Prioritized care and treatment • La Loche: 2 chairs & 3 portables • Clearwater 1 chair & 2 portables • Hygiene, education, extractions, and restorations
