The simple present tense
MAIN AIM: To express daily routines and lifestyles
Use the simple present tense to talk about facts and habitual actions in the present.
FACTS HABITUAL ACTIONS
Freddy speaks French very well. I go to bed at 10:00 p.m. every night.
I work at 43 Fork Road. She eats lunch at Mr. Chung restaurant on Fridays.
THE SIMPLE PRESENT TENSE: Form
Add –s to the verb for third-person singular (he, she, it)
I like Japanese food. He likes Mexican food
You study Korean She studies English
They open at 7:00. It opens at 8:00.
We work at Manuela Beltrán University She works at Manuela Beltrán university.
When to use it
ROUTINES
FACTS
Use don’t (do not) and doesn’t (does not) and the base form of the verb to make negative statements.
I don’t go to bed before 10:00p.m. Pedro doesn’t speak German very well.
THE SIMPLE PRESENT TENSE: YES/NO QUESTIONS
Use do or does and the verb to make Yes / No questions.
Do you live in Galerias? Does she speak by cell-phone?
EXPRESSIONS: PRONUNCIATION
 Around eight /s/ /z/ /iz/
 On Monday works is teaches
 At night takes loves washes
 At noon gets does watches
 At midnight helps goes fixes
 On weekends
 From 7:00a.m. to 12:00 O’clock /ʃ/ /ʈʃ/
 Every day wash watch
 Every single day dish teacher
 Every week

 Twice a month
 Once a year
MAIN AIMS:
To express preferences and to use “would like” to make an invitation and an excuse.
To express something that is enjoyable or not like food, sports, movies, etc.
She would like to have two children

 Asking for a meal in a restaurant.
 Going shopping
 Expressing preference

Add -s- at the end
