This document discusses information literacy in a globalized world and addresses several related concepts. It covers definitions of terms like the "flat world" and "digital natives." The document also references frameworks for information literacy and barriers to developing these skills, as well as the need to integrate literacy and thinking skills.
Slide 1 – Title Information Literacy has been an issue for over 20 years but has become something of a professional bandwagon in recent times. Even though librarians have been talking about user education courses and information skills with generations of school children, there is still feedback from tertiary education about the lack of information literacy in their student intakes. Whilst the profession keeps talking, society and technology keeps changing and I want to explore: What expectations do we have of the librarian’s role in supporting the development of information literacy? what we can expect our digital citizens to need to fully participate in the ‘flat’, global village and can dinosaurs teach avatars anything?
