4/27/2017 Jisc services lightning update
Publications Router became an official Jisc service in August 2016.
So far…
We’re taking feeds from four publishers and two other (multi-publisher) sources. Some feeds are just metadata, but we’re often able to include the full text of the article itself.
We’ve started with institutions who wished to take feeds straight into their Eprints repositories. 14 universities are currently [at 5/4/17] receiving feeds into their live repositories. Many more are queuing up to join, and at various stages in coming on board.
And now…
We know that the real potential of the Router will start to be delivered when it can send you subscription-based content that would otherwise be behind paywalls.
So I’m pleased to tell you that is now happening. As well as the (gold) open access content that we’ve been delivering from the start, we’re now delivering live feeds from a further publisher – and these include manuscripts of its subscription content. We’ll announce who that is soon.
We’re also in the process of adding actionable licensing and embargo information from the publishers, to save repository staff from having to investigate that manually.
We’re also working with the vendors of the various research information systems (CRISs), to get Router to work with them. If you’re one of the many institutions who are keen for this to happen, please make sure your vendor knows this, as they say they are driven by their clients’ priorities. That will also help us to get more publishers on board – the demand for this starts with institutions.
We also in discussion with a wide range of publishers about adding feeds from them. The recent agreement between Jisc Collections and Elsevier will mean that Elsevier will start providing metadata feeds from Science Direct.
