Cite an Article Using NoodleTools

  1. 1. How to Cite an Article using NoodleTools Academic Search Complete The Taft School Library presents 11/2018
  2. 2. Click on
  3. 3. Choose Database and your article type: Journal, Magazine, and Newspaper are the most common types
  4. 4. If the database provides a permalink or stable link to the article, enter it into the URL field.
  5. 5. In the database Academic Search Complete, click on Permalink in the Tools list.
  6. 6. You can also find it in the preformatted citation by clicking on Cite. NOTE: We do not recommend using preformatted citations because NoodleTools is unable to create footnotes from them. You can copy and paste the citation elements into NoodleTools though!
  7. 7. In JSTOR, Look for the stable link on the left below the article information and cover image
  8. 8. Click on Cite this item where you will also find it in the preformatted citation. We do not recommend using preformatted citations because NoodleTools is unable to create footnotes from them. You can copy and paste the citation elements into NoodleTools though!
  9. 9. X X X = leave blank You do not need DOI number or Database accession number at Taft
  10. 10. If there is no stable URL or if it is very long and complex, leave URL blank and select the database name from the pop-up list of Taft databases
  11. 11. Complete the form with Author’s Name Article Title Page numbers Journal Title Volume and Issue numbers Publication Date
  12. 12. Click Submit
  13. 13. Click Save If you are doing an annotated source list, Click Save & add annotation
  14. 14. Your bibliography with your new Journal Article citation
  15. 15. You can edit, copy or delete the citation
  16. 16. You can create and edit an annotation
  17. 17. Click on Footnote Format for the pop-up window showing the format for your first footnote and subsequent notes.

  19. 19. Customize the example with the exact page number of your quotation or paraphrase and NoodleTools will autofill the footnotes above. Note: Page numbers aren’t always available in electronic sources.
