RAPHAEL
HOUSE
Shapers Involved: Nathaniel Krasnoff, Matt Beck seeking partners/money/suggestions
Raphael
House:
the org
Bridge
Program:
~425 families/
year
Residential:
80 families/
year
Founded in 1971
to help families
that are
experiencing, or
are at risk, of
homelessness
85% of families
served maintain
long term stability
Gap:
earning a
living wage
• Living Wage:
– “A wage sufficient to provide the necessities essential
to an acceptable standard of living, and provides it with
some ability to deal with emergencies, without
resorting to welfare or other public assistance.”
• Minimum Wage < Living Wage
– For a single adult a living wage in SF is $14.80
– Minimum wage in CA is $10.00*
• This disparity is one of the leading causes of
homelessness among young adults in America
*As of Jan 1, 2016 and is rising $1 every year through
2021
Our goal:
reverse the equation
through education
Create a ‘NanoDegree’ ecosystem for
families of Raphael House to enable
them to earn a (better) living wage by
leveraging their position in the heart of
Silicon Valley*
*17% are still unemployed upon departure from Raphael
House- room for improvement
