PRASARAN NIGAM LIMITED
• Rajasthan Rajya Vidyut Prasaran Nigam Limited (RVPN) a company under the Companies Act, 1956 and registered with
Registrar of Companies as "RAJASTHAN RAJYA VIDYUT PRASARAN NIGAM LIMITED" vide No. 17-016485 of 2000-2001
(Corporate Identity Number (CIN) : U40109RJ2000SGC016485) with its Registered Office at VIDYUT BHAWAN, JYOTI NAGAR,
JAIPUR-302005 has been established on 19 July, 2000 by Govt. of Rajasthan under the provisions of the Rajasthan Power
Sector Reforms Act, 1999 as the successor company of RSEB. The RERC has granted RVPN a license for transmission and
bulk supply vide RERC/Transmission and Bulk Supply License 4/2001 dated 30.4.2001 to function as Transmission and Bulk
Supply Licensee in the State.
• RVPN provides the pathway for power within whole of Rajasthan. RVPN owns, builds, maintains and operates the high-
voltage electric transmission system that helps to keep the lights on, businesses running and communities strong. RVPN
also owns the shared generating projects as representative of erstwhile RSEB.
3. RVPNL aim is to provide reliable electric transmission service to these
customers. As a public utility whose infrastructure serves as the link in
transporting electricity to millions of electricity users, RVPN has following
duties and responsibilities:
• Intra state transmission of electricity through Intra-State Transmission
System;
• New creation of EHV lines and Grid Sub Stations of 765 kV/400 kV/220 kV/132
kV rating including their maintenance and augmentations;
• Planning and co-ordination relating to intra-state transmission with all
concerned agencies such as CTU, State Govt., generating companies,
licensees, Regional Power Committees etc.
• Ensuring development of an efficient, coordinate and economical system of
intra-state transmission of electricity from generating stations to Load
Centers.
AIM:
4. • GSS - GRID SUB STATION : A substation is a part of an electrical
generation, transmission, and distribution system. Substations
transform voltage from high to low, or the reverse, or perform any of
several other important functions. Between the generating station and
consumer, electric power may flow through several substations at
different voltage levels. A substation may include transformers to
change voltage levels between high transmission voltages and lower
distribution voltages, or at the interconnection of two different
transmission voltages.
• Substations may be owned and operated by an electrical utility, or may
be owned by a large industrial or commercial customer. Generally
substations are unattended, relying on SCADA for remote supervision
and control
• The word substation comes from the days before the distribution system
became a grid. As central generation stations became larger, smaller
generating plants were converted to distribution stations, receiving their
energy supply from a larger plant instead of using their own generators.

5. 220 kv GSS, Kunda ki Dhani , Jaipur
• The 220 KV GSS is situated in KUNDA ki Dhani,
Jaipur. In the GSS single main and auxillary
scheme is used. There are total three incoming
feeder and many outgoing feeders which are
mentioned in the next section.
• The GSS step down the voltage level from 220KV
to 132 KV and 132 KV to 33 KV or 11 KV in
different manner.
• There are three bus bar arrangement, main bus
bar used at a time and auxillary bus bar are
connected through bus coupler. In case of main
bus or other equipment are out of order or other
maintenance purpose than supply should be
given through auxiliary bus bar without
interruption in supply.
7. BUS BARS
:
• Bus bars are common electrical component
through which a large number of feeders
operating at some voltage have to be
connected.
• Electrical Busbar consists the number of
lines electrically, which are operating at the
same voltage and frequencies. Generally,
copper or aluminum conducting material is
used in the construction of bus bars.
8. POWER TRANSFORMER:
• The Power transformer is one type of transformer that is used to transmit electrical energy
in any component of the electronic or electrical circuit between the distribution primary
circuits and the generator. These transformers are utilized in distribution networks to
interface step down and step up voltages. The usual form of power transformer is fluid
immersed, and the life cycle of these instruments is approximately 30 years. Power
transformers can be divided into three types according to the ranges. They are large power
transformers, medium power transformers, and small power transformers.
9. FIRE PROTECTION SYSTEM:
• Transformer fire is a fearsome thing to
experience and witness. Transformers are
of many sizes and are found at power
stations, electricity grid distribution
centers and near our homes. Nevertheless,
they pose a serious and grave situation
when they catch fire. According to the
firefighting professionals, handling such
cases is one of the toughest scenarios that
they can handle.
• Major causes of fire in the transformer are
Excessive heating, severe Short Circuits,
Faulty coils and Oil leakage. So if any of the
following factors are at play then chances
of a transformer catching fire become big.
10. REMOTE TERMINAL UNITS:
• The RTU is a microprocessor-based device that
interfaces with a SCADA system by
transmitting telemetry data to the master
station and changing the state of connected
switchgear based on control messages
received from the master station or
commands generated by the RTU itself. The
RTU provides data to the master station and
enables the master station to issue controls to
the field equipment. Typical RTUs have
physical hardware inputs to interface with
field equipment and one or more
communication ports.
12. CONCLUSION :
• We think that our training was successful and we think that the 220KV sub-
station at RVPN, KUNDA KI DHANI ,KUKA, JAIPUR is an excellent training
centre for inquisitive emerging electrical engineers to learn about the
transmission and distribution of high voltage electricity and all other
protective devices. In the training session we came to know about the
fundamentals of power system which may be quite useful for our fore
coming studies.
