• Hardened steel ball is forced( suitable
standard load) into the surface of test-piece
• The diameter of impression is measured by
using calibrated microscope
• The full test load is applied for 10-15 sec
• Measuring of two diagonals of round indent

7. The vicker pyramid method
• Consists of indenting test material using
diamond
• Forms of right pyramid square based(vicker
scale) and angle of 136 degree
• Normal load applied for 10-15 sec
• Two diagonal of identation left in the surface
are measured

9. advantage
• Easier than other hardness test since required
calculation independent the size of indenter
• are that extremely accurate readings can be
taken
• More expensive than brinell test
