The commissioning of 3G networks with higher data capabilities will
provide scope for VAS activities.
11. GSM TECHNOLOGY
• GSM stands for Global System for Mobile Communication. It is a
digital cellular technology used for transmitting mobile voice
and data services.
• GSM is the most widely accepted standard in
telecommunications and it is implemented globally.
• GSM owns a market share of more than 70 percent of the
world's digital cellular subscribers.
• GSM makes use of narrowband Time Division Multiple Access
(TDMA) technique for transmitting signals.
• GSM provides basic to advanced voice and data services
including roaming service.
12. GSM TECHNOLOGY
• International roaming.
• Low-cost mobile sets and base stations (BSs)
• High-quality speech
• Compatibility with Integrated Services Digital Network (ISDN)
and other telephone company services.
• Support for new services
Why GSM?
15. MDF
• This module is for transfer of
data
• By MUX AND DEMUX
• In this module mux(4*1) the
transfer is done converting the
data in form of light signal by
convertors to pass as a single
signal through a optical fibre
• These transfer rates(speed)
increases by increasing the
module conversion number at a
time like 32*1.
16. CODE DIVISION MULTIPLE ACCESS (CDMA)
• Code Division Multiple Access (CDMA) consistently provides better
capacity for voice and data communications than other commercial
mobile technologies, allowing more subscribers to connect at any
given time, and it is the common platform on which 3G technologies
are built.
• CDMA is a spread spectrum technology, allowing many users to
occupy the same time and frequency allocations in a given
band/spaceADVANTAGES OF CDMA:
• Increased cellular communications security
• Simultaneous conversations
• Low power requirements and little cell-to-cell
coordination needed by operators.
• Extended reach-beneficial to rural users situated far
from cells.

24. BSNL BROADBAND SERVICE
• Broadband refers to a connection that has capacity to transmit large amount of
data at high speed.
• Presently a connection having download speeds of 256 kbps or more is
classified as broadband.
• When connected to the Internet broadband connection allows surfing or
downloading much faster than a dial-up or any other narrowband connections.
• BSNL offers 2 Mbps minimum download speed for its Broadband connections.
Requirement for providing Broad Band connection
1.Personal Computer
2.ADSL Modem
3.Land Line Connection
4.Splitter for separating telephone from Personal
computer 5.High speed Internet Access: This is the
always-on Internet access service with speed
ranging from 256 kbps to 8 Mbps.

26. WI-MAX
• WI-MAX is an acronym that stands for World-wide
Interoperability for Microwave Access and this technology is
designed to accommodate both fixed and mobile broadband
applications.
SALIENT FEATURES OF WIMAX ARE:
1.OFDM-based physical layer.
2.Very high peak data rates.
3.Adaptive modulation and coding (AMC)
4.Support for TDD and FDD OFDMA.
5.Flexible and dynamic per user resource
allocation.
6.Support for mobility.
7.IP-based architecture.
27. FTTH (FIBER TO THE HOME)
• Fibre to the Home (FTTH)
is a unique technology
being deployed by BSNL
for the first time in India.
• The fibre connectivity
having unlimited
bandwidth and state of the
art technology provides fix
access platform to deliver
the high speed broadband
from 256 Kbps to 100
Mbps.
28. • An optical fiber cable is made of glass (Quartz) and transmits
the signal in the form of light.
OPTICAL FIBER CABLE
29. • In fusion splicing a machine is
used to precisely align the two
fiber ends then the glass ends
are "fused" or "welded"
together using some type of
heat or electric arc.
• This produces a continuous
connection between the fibers
enabling very low loss light
transmission.

30. POWER SYSTEM FOR TELECOM
•While choosing the
basic module and
system, five years
growth projection
shall be taken into
account.
31. • Battery Bank : The capacity of battery bank shall be calculated
on the basis of the following factors :
• i) The battery reserve required, 6, 12 , 24, 36 hours or 72 hours
as per the electric supply conditions.
• ii) Battery shall not be allowed to be discharged beyond 80% of
its rated capacity at any time.
• iii) In BSNL only lead-lead-acid type is used.
