Online Dating Is
Changing Society
People used to meet potential dating
partners almost solely through friendship
groups. “People who meet online tend to be
complete strangers,” says Josue Ortega at
the University of Essex (UK) and Philipp
Hergovich, University of Vienna in Austria. In
this way, social links are set up that were
previously nonexistent, significantly
increasing the ratio of interracial marriages.
Research predicts an almost complete racial
integration within society, and suggests that
married couples who meet online even have
lower rates of marital breakup than those
who meet traditionally.

Social Sports
Consumers Ahead In
Brand Interactions
Around 1 in 5 internet users now say a main
motivation for visiting social is to follow or
watch sports events, but it seems they are
not only watching, they are actively
engaging. Especially the Millennial cohort of
sports fans.
Their main reason for social media use is to
watch/follow sports events. Many are
showing deeper engagement than the
average Millennial; they’re 63% more likely
to be clicking on sponsored posts, and 61%
more likely to be asking brands questions.

WeChat To Replace
Travel Docs
The scheme would link the travel documents
of mainland and Hong Kong citizens to their
WeChat accounts, allowing them to cross
the border by scanning faces and codes.
The new program has already been approved
by the Ministry of Public Security, while
Hong Kong's administration gave 'no
immediate response' on their stance.
Residents of the Greater Bay area would be
the first to try the program whenever it
launches. Encryption would prevent leaks of
any personal information.

Doing Good With Just
One Swipe
Giving for good causes has never been
easier: Misereor's posters placed in high
frequented areas like airports call for
donation and offer a simple act of simply
swiping your credit card which is enough to
donate two euros without any further
needed security steps.
You can also see immediately what your
donation does, as the swipe of the card
symbolically cuts through the chains binding
a Philippine child prisoner or cuts a slice of
bread for a family in Peru.

9. COMMUNICATION
ASICS Promotes Mind
Over Physique
ASICS has unveiled a new running track
featuring no technology, music or other
distractions. Sole focus is on the runner
themselves, with the message being to
encourage people to focus on their “mental
race.”
Set up in east London, the track is 150
meters and is in complete darkness, with one
spotlight on the runner. It will host a number
events to demonstrate this concept of one’s
mental state being the strongest quality in a
race, not their physique.

runner of this year’s Boston Marathon. The

excitement, support and celebration that is
Boston in a way no one has ever done
before,” said Paul Bowyer, head of Adidas
Running US.
Using technology, they were able to create

12. EXPERIENCE
Get Covered Without
Thinking
The Revolut app uses your phone’s location
services and when it detects you are abroad
it automatically signs you up to a travel
insurance policy. This means that from the
moment you get off the plane, you have
medical and dental cover - smooth, easy and
affordable, nothing like we traditionally
could expect from insurance companies.
“We wanted to create a type of insurance
that uses technology to help our customers
and only cover you on the days you actually
needed to be covered – all for the best
price.” said Nikolay Storonsky, CEO and
Founder of Revolut.

13. EXPERIENCE
Popup Netflix Shows
The new pop-up experience from Netflix
named “Because You Watched” - taken from
their popular content personalization feature
on their platform that suggests similar
content - was set up in Hollywood,
California. Visitors were able to immerse
themselves in their favorite Netflix shows
with the help of props, costs and lifelike
backdrops, and even collect mementos from
the event with Instagram-friendly displays.
The pop-up continued to promote other
shows the fans might like, just like on the
platform. Guests were also able to take
home free merchandise.

Collaboration For More
Alexa Skills
Amazon’s artificial-intelligence assistant
Alexa can already perform more than 13,000
skills, or programmed commands and
responses created either within Amazon or
by outside developers. Now Amazon has
joined with a local coding school to
encourage developers to build more
commands for its voice-powered technology.
“The program with Coding Dojo will enable
even more developers to see how easy it is to
get started building for voice,” Rob Pulciani,
director of Alexa, said in a statement.

Life Advice From
Celebrities Via
Messenger
In the campaign a well-known mindfulness
coach, a stand-up comedian and a
sportsman gave their thoughts, ideas and
their personalities to create chatbots that

This gave Telekom the opportunity to
promote its unlimited data tariffs and engage
with its audiences through a channel they
