- 1. ISINGENISO
Kuyiqiniso ukuthi izimbongi zakwaZulu zazinekhono lokugcina izindaba zomlando
ziveze indaba yempilo yenkosi ngobunkondlo kanye nangokusebenzisa ulimi olujiyile.
Izibongo zisitshela kabanzi ngobunjalo nangokubukeka kwalowo obongwayo. Imbongi
ayiphuthi ukubalula lezo zimpawu ezigqamile ngaye. Izimpawu ezigqamile yilezo
ezinomphumela othile emlandweni (Nyembezi.1958,1). Uma ngabe sikhuluma
ngezibongo kulapho imbongi ibonisa ubugagu bayo ngokubongela inkosi
ngenhloso yokundlulisa umlayezo othile ngempilo, nangezigigaba ezehlakalela inkosi.
Imbongi umuntu oyingwazi kanti futhi nonobuciko bokubeka inkulumo ngamagama
akhombisa ukuhlakanipha nangendlela enongayo futhi ibaluleke kakhulu emlandweni
wamakhosi (Ntuli noMakhambeni.1998,27). Izibongo sivamise ukubongela, ukutusa
kanye nokugxeka inkosi ngesenzo esenzile esibi, kodwa ukuze imbongi ikwenze lokhu
kufanele isebenzise ulimi oluhloniphayo nolungeke luthukuthelise inkosi.. Izibongo
zamakhosi zithathwa njengencwadi yomlomo yomlando wamakhosi kanye nobunjwa
kobukhosi baleso sizwe. Lokhu kugqamisa ukuthi azizona izinkondlo eziqhakambisa
ukucikoza ngamakhosi nje kuphela kodwa ziyibhuku lomlando. Emandulo ngaphambi
kokufika kwama mishini izizwe ezinsundu zasingenalo ulwazi lokuloba phansi kodwa
lokho akuzange kuvimbele ukugcinwa komlando ngendlela yezibongo. Ukugcina
umlando kwakusetshenziswa ubuciko bomlomo okuyinhlanganisela yemisebenzi
esungulwa ngabantu ngaphandle kokuba babhale phansi (Ntuli
noMakhambeni.1998,167). Izibongo zisitshela ngenkosi ngomlando waleso sizwe
kanye nezimpi ezazilwiwa ileyo nkosi kanye nesizwe sakhe. Le eseyi izoxoxa kafuphi
ngomlando bese ixoxa ngomsebenzi wokubaluleka kwezibongo njengoba
ziwumlando, zihlaziya impilo yenkosi zibuye zisebenzise ulimi lobunkondlo olujiyile.

UMZIMBA
Umlando wakwaZulu
Umlando wakwaZulu awuqali ngenkosi u Jama kodwa uqala emuva kakhulu. Isizathu
sokuthi ngiqale ngokubheka umlando wukuthi kufanele sibheke ukuthi lamakhosi
engizoxoxa ngawo aqhamukaphi. uSenzangakhona uzalwa nguMthaniya wesizwe
sakwaSibiya kanye nenkosi uJama. Utholakala nje inkosi yayingasenalo ithemba
lokuthi iyophinde ithole indlalifa ngoba neminyaka yayisihambile. Ngokutholakala kuka

uSenzangakhona ebenamadodana ayishumi nane kodwa avela kakhulu ngu Shaka
Sigujana Dingane kaSenzangakhona Mpande kaSenzangakhona ngoba yiwo lawa
akwazi ukuthathe ubukhosi bakwaZulu.
Izibongo njengomlando kanye nobunkondlo obuvezwa izibongo
uShaka kwakuyindodana kaSenzangakhona noNandi intombi yaseLangeni.
Ngaphambi kokuzalwa kukaShaka siyasithola isehlakalo esenzakala engakazalwa,
“Usishaka kasishayeki”
NgokukaNyembezi (1958,28) uShaka wathola lezi zibongo ngoba ngenkathi
uNandi ekhulelwe wabikela uSenzangakhona wasiphika isisu kwathiwa uhlushwa
isifo isishaka esikhukhumalisa isisu.
Imbongi isebenzise isingathekiso sokubiza uShaka ngesikashaka esingashayeki.
Usebenzise ulwimi lobunkondlo ngoba efuna ukuveza amandla uShaka anawo
ngenxa yokuthi uqalwe wabizwa ngesifo esingalapheki waphinda waba iqhawe
elikwazi ukubumba isizwe sakwaZulu.
Wakhula uShaka Waba inkosi yakwaZulu emuva kokukhothama kwenkosi
uSenzangakhona kaJama. Ulwe izimpi eziningi kakhulu wabulala abantu
abaningi ayebasola ukuthi bangaba inkinga esihlalweni sakhe sobukhosi.
Ezinye izibongo zikaShaka ezithi UMbebe kamama, Beba simike ziyinkomba yokuthi
uSenzangakhona benoNandi babengaganene, kanti uNandi wayengavunyelwe
ukuhlala esigodlweni. Babehambe behlala ezindaweni eziningi ezahlukene yaze
iNdlovukazi uNandi yayokwendela kuGendeyane ingakho izibongo zikaShaka
maziqhubeka zithi abanye basemhlane konina babelethwe.
- 3. Imbongi ikwazi ukuveza ukuhlupheka kukaShaka ngobunkondlo yangahlambalaza.
Lolulwimi lunothe kakhulu ngoba imbongi isebenzise amagama acishe abe nomqondo
ofanayo kodwa lokhu ukwenze ngobunkondlo ukuthi izibongo zingaphelelwa isigqi
sazo.
Lempilo yokuhlupheka ayeyiphila uShaka eseyingane benonina uNandi
yamenza wakhalipha, washisa wafana nomlilo. Lokhu kuchaza ubuyena uma izibongo
zakhe zithi ophehlwe weva njengomlilo (Nyembezi, 1958: 29).
Lesi isifaniso esifanisa uShaka njengoMlilo. Isifaniso sisuke sifanisa izinto ezimbili
ezingafani kodwa izenze zifane. Ubunkondlo esibuye sibuthola lana ukuthi emandulo
umlilo ubuphehlwa ngameva noma ngozwathi.
Uthe uShaka mayefika kwaMthethwa wakhombisa isibindi esikhulu kanye
nobuchwephesha ngokuhlabana kwakhe empini. Ukwaze ukunqoba uhlanya
obeluhlupha abantu abaningi esizweni sakwa Mthethwa ehlathini luthathe izinkomo
zabantu. Ithi imbongi mayimhaya uNomakhwelooyingonyama, uMahlom’ ehlathini
njengohlanya, Uhlanya olusemehlweni amadoda. Kanti futhi kuseyiso isibindi
sakhe lezi esichazwa imbongi uma ithi uNombangakubuya, Usisanhloko, Nxa
abanye bes’ izinyawo.
Izibongo ezithi ilemb’ eleq’ amanye’ amalembe zisuka lapho uShaka esehlabana
nezimpini, kungekho ngwazi edla ubhedu kuye; yilapho esesukela amakhosi
namakhosana ngamanye. Phela lokhu kuyichazelo eshoyo ukuthi wayekhaliphe
okwezembe. uShaka ebethi uma efika empini aqothule imbokodo nesisekelo ngoba
imbongi mayimchaza imubiza ithi ozulu luyeza khwezani abantwana, Ngabadala
bodwa abazozibalekela. Lokhu singaphinde sikuchaze sibheke ukubuyele kwakhe
kwaZulu eyolanda ubukhosi bakhe efika ebulala uSigujane obeqeda kubekwa
njengenkosi yakwaZulu. Ukubuya kwakhe kwakungalindelekile neze ngoba unina
wayedelelekile kakhulu esizweni nokuthi u Nandi noSenzangakhona babengaganene.
Lokhu kwakwenza bengacabangi nokucabanga abantu ukuthi uShaka angabuya
azokuba inkosi (Nyembezi 1958,31). Kuyavela ezibongweni zakhe ezithi Uteku
lwabafazi bakwaNomgabhi, Betekula behlez’ emlovini, Beth’ uShaka
akayukubusa, Kakubankosi, kant’ ilapho ezakunethezeka. Uthe mayeqeda
ukubuthatha ubukhosi bonke abantu ababemhlukumezile nabanye abahlukumeza
- 4. unina wabasusa endleleni, wahlasela ngaph nangapha. Yiwo lomlilo okukhulunywa
ngawo lapho kuthiwa UMlilo wothathe kaMjokwana;
UMlilo wothathe ubuhanguhangu, Oshis’ izikhova eziseDlebe, Kwaya kwasha
neziseMabedlana. Odabule kuNdima noMgovu, Abafaz’ abenendeni baphuluza;
Imikhubulo bayishiy’ izinqindi, Imbewu bayishiya semahlangeni, Izalukazi
zasala semanxiweni, Amaxhegu asala semizileni.
Ubunkondlo esibuthola ezibongweni zikaShaka
Ezibongweni kunobunkondlo obukhona obusetshenziswa izimbongi ngaphandle
kokuqaphela ukuthi ubunkondlo. Njengoba besishilo ngenhla ukuthi emandulo
ukubhala kwakungekho kodwa izimbongi bezisebenzisa ubuciko bomlomo ukuveza
noma ukuhaya izibongo. Ukuveza ubunkondlo obukhona ngizobheka isakhiwo
sangaphandle lapho khona sibheka isigaba, impindwa, imvumelwano,
isigqi,ukuphindwa amaphethini, ukuxhumana kanye nemfanamsind. Ngizophinde
ngibheke nesakhiwo sangaphakathi sibukeze isingathekiso,usenzasamuntu,
isiqhathanisa, isifaniso.
Isakhiwo sangaphandle
Isigaba: uKheswa noMthiyane (1993: 89-90) uma bechaza isigaba bona bathi
ngamaqoqwana emigqa yenkondlo ehlukaniswe kwamanye amaqoqwana ngokushiya
isikhadlana. Leyo naleyo ndima enkondlweni ivama ukwethula umlayezo kumbe
umqondo othile ophelele, kepha ube uyingxenye yomqondo owodwa okuyiwo
oqukethwe yinkondlo yonke. Esikhutholayo ezibongweni zenkosi uShaka ukuthi
azikho izigaba. Lokhu kukhombisa umehluko okhona phakathi kwezinkondlo
zesimanye nezasemandulo.
Ukuphindwaphindwa kwamagama noma Imigqa enomqondo ohambisanayo
ezinkondlweni zesiZulu kuyinto evamisile kakhulu (Thwala L,Z.2005,81). IZibongo
zicebe kakhulu ngalobu buciko obabuzenzakalela. Izimbongi zamakhosi akwaZulu
zazijule kakhulu ngomqondo ngoba zazinekhono lokuqamba izibongo ngesigameko
esithile esenzeka ngaleso sikhathi.

UPretorius, (1989:32) uma echaza ifanamsindo uthi: Ufanankamisa kuyinto eyinqubo
lapho ongwaqa abafanayo benza umsindo noma onkamisa abafanayo benza umsindo
ophindaphindiwe emigquni owodwa noma engaphezulu kowodwa. Lolu hlobo
lokuphindaphinda siyaluthola ezinkondlweni zesiZulu.Kungubuciko obusezingeni
eliphakeme ukukwazi ukusebenzisa izinhlamvu noma imisindo evumelanayo
ndawonye kungabikhona ukulahleka kwesigqi.

Wakhethelwa udwedwe lwamaza siyathola lenkondlo ukuthi ayilahlekelwa isigqi uma
imbongi usebenzise ofanamsindo.
Isakhiwo sangaphakathi
Isingathekiso : Lesi isifengqo esifanisa izinto ezimbili eziqhathaniswayo kufanele kube
ngezingafaniyo. Nokho isingathekiso sehlukile esifanisweni ngokuthi sona
asizisebenzisi izakhi zokuqhathanisa. Kunalokho isingathekiso sisebenzisa isibanjalo
noma sivele sibeke obala le nto esifanisa ngayo:
Inyath' ehamb' isengam' amazibuko.
Kuleli vesi inkosi uShaka ufaniswa nesilwane esinamandla kakhulu futhi esilwayo
lokho okusho ukuthi naye wayenjalo uma eye ekuhlaseleni kwakhe izizwe.
Isenzasamuntu yisifengqo okuthi into engaphili inikwe izimpawu
zobuntu. IkhuIume njengomuntu, yenze njengomuntu, ibe nemizwelo yomuntu noma
ibe nezitho zomuntu:

Uvemvane isilwane esithandekayo kakhulu esinogazi, uShaka lana imbongi imbeka
njengomuntu obethandeka kakhulu.
Isifaniso yisifengqo esiqhathanisa izinto ezimbili ezingafani kodwa ezinobudlelwane
obuthile obutholakala kuzo zombili. Ngokuvamile kubonakala ngegama elithi “njenge”
noma “kuhle kwe”:
“Ophehlwe weva wanjengomlilo”
uMshongweni imbongi kaShaka emfanisa nomlilo. Ichaza ukuhlupheka kukaShaka
ukuthi kumenze waba indoda waqina (Nyembezi, 1958: 29).
- 7. Ukuqhathanisa. Lapho usuke ubeka izinto ezimbili ezingafani nhlobo. Kusuke
kukhona imiqondo emibili eqophisanayo ngenhlongo yokugqamisa ukuqophisana
kwayo:
Amanz' aseMpembeni yinguqunguqu,
Angiqedi nalapho ayayo,
Amany' ayewuka,
Amany' ayaqonsa.
La mavesi afanisa inkosi uShaka namanzi. Amanzi ayingozi uma umfula udla
izindwani. imbongi igqamisa ukuthi inkosi uShaka wayengaqondakali wayengumuntu
oguquguqukayo ezikhathi eziningi (Nyembezi, 1958: 41).
Umlando nempilo kaDingani evezwe izibongo
Emva kokuba esembulele umfowabo uMhlangana uDingane wabusa izwe lakwaZulu.
uDingane wayezalwa nguMpikase benoSenzangakhona kaJama. Izimpi uDingane
azilwa aziziningi njengezikaShaka, kwaba impi yaseMaqongqo eyayiphakathi
kwakhe noMpande, ImpiyaseNcome eyayiphakathi kwamabutho kaDingane
kanye namaBhunu ngezi-16kuZibandlela ngo-1838 eyayiholwa u-Andries
Pretorius, yingakho sigubha i-Day ofGoodwill. Ukubusa kuka Dingane kwakufana
kokuShaka kodwa wayengenabo ubuchopho nobuhlakani bukaShaka. Izinhliziyo
zabo ezilukhuni zazifanangendlela ebabazekayo (Dhlomo.1936,23). Wathi mayeqala
ukuthatha ubukhosi uDingane waqala ukuqalaza ngapha nangapha wabulala
abafowabo nalezonceku azabe zithandwa kakhulu nguShaka ngoba ethi uvikela
ubukhosi bakhe. uDingane wayengafuni ukuba kube khona osalayo ongahle
ambangise. Umpande wasinda ngokuthi wayebukeka njengesilinyana futhi ehlushwa
umchoboka. Ukugudluza abafowabo yikho okwamnika lezibongo ezithi: ithol’
elinsizwa lakokaDonda, Elihambe liwakhahlel’ amany’ amathole. Ngombuso
kaDingane sithola ukuthi abantu bathola ukujabula ngokuphefumula ngoba umbuso
kaShaka wawubahlukumeze kakhulu. Ezibongweni zikaDingane inyosi yakhe ithi:
Umalamlela, Owalamlel’ abafazi namadoda, Walamlel’ izintombi namasoka.
Iphinde ithi imbongi Umhloph’ owakhanyis’ ukusa kwadabuka.
Ekutheni uDingane, uVemvane olumabala azibhadu yingoba wayengumuntu
ongaqondakali futhi owayehlazi ewuguquguqula umqondo wakhe. Akushoyo
- 8. bekuguquka ngokushesha futhi isimilo sikaDingane ngokuka Nyembezi (1958:50)
sivezwangokuthi, Isizib' esinzonzo, sinzonzobele. Lokhu kuchaza lapho ayaziwa
ngokuthula kodwa ebe enobungozi kabi. UDingane wayefaniswa nendlovu, “Indlovu
lekulala kungqwambayiya” ngoba wayemkhulu kakhulu ngokomzimba. Izibongo
zikaDingane ziqukethe ukuncoma kanye nokugxeka okuqondiswe kuye. Isibonelo
sokuncoma uDingane uNyembezi (1958:45) yena usibeke kanje: UVezi uNonyanda
UMgabadeli, Owagabadela inkundla yakwaBulawayo. Lapha ngenhla imbongi
incoma ukuthi unguVezi ngoba uyena owavumela abantu besilisa ukuthi bagqoke
izicoco futhi bathathe abafazi. Kafishane nje nguye owaveza abantu kanti uShaka
wayekade engakuvumeli lokho. uDingane sibuye sithole ukuthi ebeyiqili bakhulu
ngoba wayekwazi ukukunika isithombe esingeyiso ngaye. Isenzo sakhe sokuthi
athumelele uMpande izinkomo eziyishumi njengesipho ukuze adle aphinde futhi
anikeze nezingane zakhe (Dhlomo. 1936,76). Ukungaqondakali kukaDingane
kwakungenza omunye ongamazi engathuka esekhohlisekile kanti usezifaka obishini.
UNyembezi (1958:49) yena umveza ngokuthi: UVezi ngimfunyane bemzila, Ngafika
ngamudla, Kanti ngizifak'iloy'esiswini.
AmaBhunu ayengamthandisisi uDingane yingakho wayefana nesibhaha kuwo.
UNyembezi (1958:48) uphawula athi: Indiha lebabayo enjengesibhaha, Sona
simababa kuMahashanga. Ayengamthandi ngoba wayengathandi ukuhambisana
nezifiso zawo zokuthatha izwe lonke lakwaZulu. Izibongo zikaDingane lapho imbongi
imuhaya ithi: Izibuko likaNdaba, Elimadwalw'abushelelezi; Lashelel'uPiti
nendodana. Owadl'uPiti kumaBhunu, Wamudla wamtshobotshela;
Odl'uMzibhelibheli kumaBhunu, Wadl'uPhuzukuhloma kumaBhunu,
Wadl'uHwahwini kumaBhunu, Wadl'uJanomude kumaBhunu,
Wadl'uJanejembuluki kumaBhunu, Wadl'uMazinyansakansaka kumaBhunu,
Wadl'oSisini kumaBhunu, Wamfamfatha wakhafula, Wathi bayababa
kabananyongo; Wadl'imhloph'imibili, Omunye nguNoziwawa.
Lamagama anikwe ngenhla ezibongweni aqanjwe ngoba izimbongi zazingawazi
amagama amaBhunu. Lapha kubalwa uPiti, uMzibhelibheli, uPhuzukuhloma,
uHhahwini, uJanomude, uMazinyansakansaka uJanejembuluki kanye noSisini.
NgokukaNyembezi (1958:58) uveza ukuthi kukhona abathi amaBhunu ayefike ngoba
- 9. ezolanda izinkomo zawo. Lezo zinkomo zashaqwa yimpi kaDingane eyazithatha
ngesikhathi ithatha ezikaMzilikazi.
Ubunkondlo obutholakala ezibongweni zikaDingane
Ezibongweni zikaDingane kukhona ubunkondlo obutholakalayo. Ukubuveza
lobunkondlo kunezinto okufanele zichazwe ngaphansi kwesakhiwo sangaphandle
kanye nesangaphakathi. Esakhiweni sangaphandle iIapho engizobheka khona
imvumelwano,ukuphindwa amaphethini, ukuxhumana kanye nefanamsindo.
Kwesangaphakathi isakhiwo ngizobheka isingathekiso,isenzasamuntu, isiqhathanisa
kanye isifaniso.

Ukuphindwa amaphethini- siyakuthola ukuphindwa kwamaphethini ezibongweni
zikaDingane. Ngoba besichazile ezibongweni zikaShaka ukuthi lokhu kwenzaka
isikhathi esiningi uma ngabe kukhulunywa ngesimilo saleyonkosi. Imbongi sithola lana
ukuthi iphinde igama elithi Wadlu kanye noMashobane. Lokhu ikwenze ngekhono
elikhulu lobunkondlo wenza nalezibongo zangalahlekelwa isigqi.

Imbongi ngenxa yesimo sikaDingane sokuthanda ukuhlolisisa nanokuthi wayenovalo
kakhulu u Dingane ngoba wayehlezi ekhumbula amagama kaShaka okuthi liyobuswa
izinyoni zeZulu. Lokhu kumenze abe umuntu okhathazekile kakhuku ingakho imbongi
imfanisa nalesisilwane.
