RBS Case Study Keynote on Workplace by Facebook

  2. At F8 in 2011 Mark talked about what Facebook had been working on for the last year and that was when Groups was firmly established as a core feature within Facebook. At that point, we had 20% of the employees we have today and the number of people using Facebook was less than 50% of now. We were growing quickly and finding it difficult to collaborate on projects, work on tasks and share updates through email.
  3. and so we began to use Groups, which we had built for people on Facebook, for our own internal use. From that point it just became our way of working at Facebook.
  4. A big shift in communication is happening. Why? 1. The world of technology is changing fast - it took television 60 years before it could claim to be in a billion households and it took smartphones just 5 years to reach that milestone. Mobile App Developers have to continually innovate, it isn’t easy to build loyalty, your product has to be better than competitors. So now the expectation is something better every week, and that comes with us to work. When someone is given a tool that doesn’t quite measure up at work they will probably start using what they use in their personal lives. 2. The workforce is changing - by 2020, in just 3 years, 50% of the workforce will be millennials. In this new world people want to be empowered, make an impact and have an open dialogue with their CEO.
  5. In October 2016 we publicly launched Workplace Now thousands of companies are using it to communicate and collaborate. So what is it about Workplace that enables them to do this?
  6. We’ve made sure that the product is enterprise ready. Separate Work community with your own company subdomain Complete ownership and access to your community data Control access by integrating your existing IDP and SSO providers
  7. Starbucks are one of our most global brands using Workplace but there are so many other stories i could share. Today we have 14,000 companies using Workplace in every continent, even Antarctica to change the way they run and we’re excited to see how we can reach even more companies and ultimately connect everyone at work.
  8. Well first I should tell you a little bit about the product and how it works. Workplace is just like Facebook but for work. First and foremost it’s all about people not about org charts. So what you’ll see is people creating, reacting to, commenting on and sharing posts. People are more likely to pay attention to and engage with content that is posted by a person, not an anonymous profile. The News Feed on Workplace is what you know from Facebook, surfacing information you care about, that helps you to be more productive and features like Trending show you what is important across the whole company. And on Workplace instead of posting social stories to your friends, it’s all about groups. It makes sense because at work when you have information to share or a project to work on it’s normally with a specific group of people, ranging from a small team to the whole company.
  9. I don't know about you but when I worked in other companies I’d find it really difficult to find the right person to talk to when I had a problem or needed help. A good example is an IT helpdesk. If you have an IT problem you probably send an email to the IT team which generates a ticket and gets added to a queue. If something major happens the IT team probably get hundreds of emails, so for them it’s top priority to find an effective way of broadcasting this information and updates.   10. Now on Workplace the IT team can post an update about the issue in the right group and to get updates, you can subscribe by simply commenting on the post. And sometimes issues aren’t unique and using Workplace you can build a repository so people can quickly find resolutions and help each other. And companies benefit from this - One telecommunications company using Workplace has reduced their SLA on IT support tickets from 3 weeks to 1 day using Groups on Workplace.
  11. And when you want to share notes from a meeting or learnings from a conference you attended you’ll want a rich way of formatting that content so that people can easily read it. So we created formatted posts on Workplace. Now it’s easier to read updates, not only on web but also on the small screen of a mobile device. You’ll be able to create posts with headers, bullet points and numbering, embedded hyperlinks and even @mention people in the post so that they’re notified. CLICK FOR REST OF NOTES & FADE
  12. As well as being able to create formatted posts you also get the rich interaction through reactions, comments and shares. But that’s not all. We’re often working on projects with people who may not be based in the same office as us, or even the same country.
  13. At work it’s likely that most of your day is spent working within teams or projects. Take the example of a project that you are working on. Projects usually entail a lot of meetings and milestones. And how do you have an effective meeting? By preparing a great agenda. Usually the project lead creates the agenda but what if you have 20 people on that project? You need an efficient way of getting everyone’s feedback so that the meeting is productive for everybody. Docs and notes are a great way to do that, where you can add bullet points, numbering, headers, bolding, underlining, code blocks, inline images and more. And if you need to collaborate on a doc you can have multiple people in a group co-edit it. And my colleague who is on the move can quickly open the doc without having to pinch and zoom because of the native experience on mobile.
  14. And sometimes teams struggle to communicate because of language barriers. Your colleagues in Japan will want to communicate in Japanese. On Workplace we have support for over 100 languages and I can instantly translate posts from my colleagues in Spanish, Hindi, Arabic to my native language. For many companies this is truly the first time their global teams can communicate.
  15. And then you realize you need some information from an agency you’re working with. You have a multi-company group with them, allowing you to collaborate with them more effectively.
  16. With this agency it’s important that we can easily share videos and images. I need to be able to see the latest 360 degree video the agency put together so I can give feedback. I can easily view it because Workplace fully supports 360 degree videos and photos. The threaded comments in the group keep the conversations clear, and if someone new joins the project, all of the history is there waiting for them. It’s clear at all times who has visibility of the conversation so there’s no fear of accidentally bcc’ing someone who shouldn't see the content.
  17. Why Workplace works • Familiar - we learned that companies didn’t need to train people to use Workplace and they knew exactly what to do. We’ve changed the bits that needed changing for the workplace but we kept the bits people know and love. • Mobile First - we worked with companies where 80% of their workforce had no corporate IT and the mobile apps became the main way to reach these people and get their feedback. So we built Workplace so it was easy for these companies to set up accounts for everyone. • Heart of the Business - we learned that Workplace was being used as the heart of the business. Used to announce important company news, replace existing workflows and collaborate in teams. • Separate and Secure - we learned people wanted to keep their personal and work lives separate - most people don’t want their colleagues to see their family updates and vacation photos. So we made it so you can create a Workplace account without having a Facebook account.
  18. First, customers have been asking for Workplace to integrate more deeply with the tools and services they use every day. Workplace has quickly become the place people have critical work conversations, but it's not the only tool people use. When we asked our customers what they meant by deeper integration, three themes really cut through....
  19. ...new integrations with some of the leading ENTERPRISE CLOUD SERVICES - Microsoft's OneDrive & Office, Box, Salesforce and Quip. These integrations should make it dramatically easier to share files, documents and customer records have rich conversations around them, and quickly see what people are actively working on The best way to see how they work, is to show you....
  20. Monica leads our NA Sales team-goes to the NA Tech Partners group to catch up on the latest. Luke just came back from a meeting with Real Robotics. He shares the Opportunity from Salesforce to let the team knows the conversation is moving to the next stage: a face-to-face meeting with the CEO. Monica wants to share a draft of her pitch deck to get feedback from the team. She goes to the composer, taps on OneDrive and loads the native OneDrive file picker. She can easily browse through her files and choose the right one. On Workplace, instead of just link, the file renders with rich previews - an image for every slide. When Monica shares this, it looks great on web AND on mobile. Vanessa gets a notification on her phone, and pulls it out to take a look. She's able to tap in and see each slide in high resolution. She notices a typo on slide 4, so she taps comment & can leave a note on that particular slide Monica gets a notif. that takes her right to that slide - she sees the prob & clicks on the link. The file opens in PowerPoint Online where she's able to correct the mistake - the file's automatically saved. Back on Workplace - the Files tab for her team's group shows all the files the team is working on - and because Monica's just made an update, her deck is at the top

  22. Another thing we've heard is that people want new ways to reach everyone at their company. And over the last 6 months, it's become clear that a powerful way to do that is through Live Video.
  23. Live video is huge on Facebook, and it's huge on Workplace. We've seen: • teams streaming their weekly meetings • companies move training & seminars over from legacy video platforms • and CEO's regular Q&A's with their entire company Live video takes something that used to be expensive - THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS, and instead, lets you broadcast to your team, department or your entire company, for FREE, from the phone in your pocket. But if you're streaming a Q&A with your CEO - a phone isn't always the right tool...

  26. Elkjøp is an electronics retailer in the Nordics with over 12,000 employees, the majority of which work in their stores. Before Workplace they didn’t have a platform to hear from everybody in the company but now they use it for everyone to share their expertise and insights. This is Martin. Martin was tasked with training people on the latest kitchen appliances at Elkjøp’s training fayre. Martin and the team took the initiative to put these training videos on Workplace so that all 3000 people working in that department know the latest and greatest about all of their products. The incredible thing is that the video spread across the company and now Martin is a celebrity at Elkjøp, and the training videos are helping to ensure their customers always get the best information and service. This last year, whilst using Workplace Elkjøp reached an all-time revenue high.
  27. Lastly, here's something Workplace customers have been asking us for for - well - ever since we launched Workplace! In most companies, Workplace quickly becomes the place where people and teams move most of their conversations - but Workplace isn't the only tool they use to get things done. So our customers have been asking us for more ways to weave Workplace into their day to day.
  28. Because at Facebook, we have over 100 Workplace bots powering everyday tasks. Here are some examples from the life of a Facebook employee.
  29. If you've ever visited Facebook, you'll know you sign in on an iPad in reception. What you don't know is that the person you're visiting gets a message from a bot in Work Chat to let them know you're here. (click) I can see Tom's here to see me, and I can quickly reply with "on my way" or "I don't know this person!" which helps our reception staff provide a much better visitor experience.
  30. We have a periodic survey of employees, which is shared with people's managers and then in aggregated form with entire parts of the company. Before Workplace, this would have happened in an email and people would have been unlikely to respond. But now we can message them where they are already - Work Chat!
  31. But the most powerful things happen if you let Bots in Chat and Bots in Groups work together. Here's an example. Mae works in a factory. She notices an issue with a piece of machinery She goes to her group on Workplace to report the issue She mention's Repair Bot to call in the fix and attaches an image of the problem Repair bot replies letting her know it's on the case
