  2. 2. Early Life • Born on November 11, 1885 in San Gabriel, California • Had a younger sister, Nita • Came from a long serving military family
  3. 3. Education • Attended Virginia Military Institute like his father and grandfather • Transferred to the United States Military Academy at West Point to be guaranteed a commission in the army after graduation
  4. 4. Life at West Point • Broke school record in the hurdles event • Was known for his determination and drive • Achieved the highest rank in the Corp of Cadets. • Thought it was hid destiny to become a famous general. • Graduated in 1909
  5. 5. Life after West Point • Married Beatice Ayer • Competed in the 1912 Olympic games in Stockholm, Sweden at the Military Pentathlon • Studied fencing and cavalry and wrote the first manual on swordsmanship training fot the USA army.
  6. 6. First Taste of Battle • Traveled with General John J. Pershing to put down a raid in Mexico • Killed 3 bandits on a courier mission • Patton was praised for his efforts and began to model himself after General Pershing

  8. 8. World War II North African Campaign • 1943 Lieutenant – General Patton was placed in command of the II Corps in North Africa • Patton transformed the II Corps into one of the finest in the U.S Army • II Corps along with British 1 st Army pushed the Germans out of North Africa
  9. 9. Sicily Campaign • As a result of Patton’s success in Africa he was given control of the 7 th Army • Passed through Sicily taking Palermo and Messina with ease • Was accused of trying to steal the headlines by beating the British to Messina
  10. 10. Removal From Command • Patton was known for his bloodthirsty speeches and strict rules of conduct • While Patton was visiting a military hospital he saw a young man that was crying. Patton found him to be a weak and cowardly man and screamed and yelled at him then slapped him across the face • This lead to Patton’s 10 month removal from command and order from General

Ardennes Offensive (Battle of the Bulge) • Last ditch offensive by the Germans • German troops were able to move to the front without being detected • Germany armed more than 250,000 men and attacked the weak point of the allied forces • Patton was able to bring his army into the battle and help to drive the German Army back to the original line of confrontation
  12. 12. End of Battle • May 6, 1945 Patton and his men moved into western Bohemia (Czech Republic) • May 8, 1945 Allies accepted the unconditional surrender of Nazi Germany
  13. 13. Death • Died on December, 9 1945 aged 60 years • Died after being paralyzed in a car accident in Germany shortly after the war • Died in a military hospital in Germany
