This slideshow begins with an explanation of the science that is driving climate change. As fossil fuels are burned, heat-trapping carbon dioxide enters the atmosphere, altering the Earth's natural carbon cycle. This has dangerous impacts around the world. Extreme temperatures are becoming the norm, which leads to catastrophic weather events like droughts that cause wildfires, or storms that cause floods. The longer it takes to reverse our emissions trends, the worse these weather events will become and the further away we get from ever reaching a stable climate. But there are solutions; natural gas has become increasingly cheaper in recent years and, if extracted and consumed properly, can offer a much cleaner energy source than traditional coal. Huge gains have been made in energy efficiency as well; in buildings, transportation, industry, and the electricity system. Renewable energy has also entered the playing field, with solar, wind, biomass, geothermal, and storage now starting to be able to compete with traditional fossil fuels. Policy action is needed in order to maintain this transition toward cleaner energy. We need to manage our use of fossil fuels, expand energy efficiency, and accelerate renewables. Whether it's by state regulation, federal standards, or Congressional action, we have the opportunity to ensure a low-carbon future for the U.S. and the world.
This person enjoys cooking, swimming, reading, and praying. They also like spending time with family through activities like family gatherings and social outings at the mall with their sister. While with friends, they find enjoyment in being in the river together but dislike eating meals alone.
The document lists activities that the author enjoys such as cooking, swimming, reading, talking with God, and spending time with family at gatherings. The author finds good times with their sisters.
This document discusses the progress and policy drivers of clean energy investment and identifies challenges and solutions for power systems with high renewable energy penetration. Renewable energy costs have fallen dramatically in recent years while global investment has reached record highs, driven by renewable portfolio standards and mandates in California, Europe, China and other jurisdictions. Concerns about the variability of wind and solar power are addressed by solutions such as energy storage, demand response and gas backup generation. The document argues for "investment-grade policy" characterized by performance incentives, long time horizons, siting and contract certainty to reduce costs and scale up deployment of clean energy.

This document discusses several linguistic concepts:
- Phonetics is the study of speech sounds. Articulatory phonetics studies how sounds are made. Auditory phonetics deals with perceiving sounds through hearing.
- Co-articulation refers to making one sound at the same time as the next sound. Assimilation occurs when aspects of one sound are taken on by another sound in a sequence.
- Languages can contain many word-like elements within single forms, as seen in the Swahili example "Ni-ta-ku-penda."
- Morphemes can be free (ordinary words) or functional (conjunctions, prepositions, etc.).
Electricity system optimization means making the most effective use of a portfolio of electricity resources to maximize top public policy goals, delivering a system that is affordable, reliable, and clean. This presentation highlights technologies that can help optimize the grid, barriers to system optimization (an how to overcome them), and what State Energy Office can do to address and overcome these barriers.
Currently, many of California's urban areas are characterized by sprawl development patterns that locate amenities far away from one another forcing people to use cars and contribute to crippling traffic. Alternatively, smart growth patterns emphasize compact and infill urban development to facilitate mixed-use neighborhoods and non-motorized transportation options. This type of development can significantly help California meet its 2030 climate target, while also offering an enormous pay-off to the state and it's residents.
This document discusses methods for assessing crop loss from pests like insects and diseases. It provides formulas for calculating leaf and stem mass destruction to quantify armyworm damage in maize. It also discusses using number of destroyed plants and share of plants destroyed to assess damage from diamondback moth in cabbages. The document outlines the relationships between potential, attainable and actual yields, defining how attainable yield can be reduced by pests to result in actual yield. This framework is used to provide an example quantification of yield loss to locust in maize crops in Zimbabwe.

Which climate and energy policies can most cost-effectively drive down China's carbon emissions? Energy Innovation, together with two Chinese government advisory groups, built a computer model to assess the combined effects of 35 climate, energy, and environmental policies on a variety of metrics. The model's results indicate that China can peak emissions by or around 2030 using a set of well-known policies, and the transition will be cost-effective and economically beneficial with large public health benefits. This presentation highlights some of the project's key findings.

This document outlines some of the challenges faced by the author in learning English from their native language. Some of the key problems mentioned include:
- Assuming spelling and pronunciation rules are the same between languages. Examples given include doubling consonants and stress placement.
- Homophones and words with multiple meanings in English vs their native language, like "get".
- Irregular pronunciations of words like "island" and silent letters changing meaning like "fate" vs "fat".
- Difficulties distinguishing similar sounding words in conversations like contractions.
- Nouns having both countable and uncountable forms like "homeworks" vs "homework".

The document appears to be a short list containing two items: "Room" and "Dining room". It seems to be providing a basic categorization or room types, with the first item implying a general room and the second specifying a dining room as a subtype.
The document describes a morning routine of two activities - taking a shower and then going to work. It provides a brief overview of the daily tasks of showering and commuting to one's place of employment.
