This document defines and provides examples of different species interactions: competition occurs when individuals attempt to use limited resources; predation involves a predator prey relationship with adaptations to avoid, defend, or find prey; mutualism benefits both species who may depend on each other for survival; parasitism is when a parasite lives in or on a host without killing it; and commensalism helps one species while neither harming or helping the other. The reader is prompted to fill out a chart with examples of each interaction type.
