Eligiblity Criteria for Admission to
Engineering Courses
(A) A candidate will be eligible for admission to B.Tech.
courses on the basis of merit in AIEEE examination, if
he / she fulfills the following conditions:
1. He / She has passed 10 + 2 examination with pass in
Physics and Mathematics as compulsory subjects and
any one of the following optional subjects :
Chemistry / Biology / Biotechnology / Computer
Science OR
Candidates who have passed diploma in any branch
of Engineering from Punjab State Board of Technical
Education, Chandigarh OR having passed Diploma
course from Sant Longowal Institute of Engineering
and Technology, Longowal OR having passed from
any other recognized State Board of Technical
Education.
3. He/She possesses a good moral character.

Globally, the usage of Mechanical Engineering
is found in the records of many ancient and
medieval societies. In ancient Greece, the works
of Archimedes deeply influenced mechanics in
the Western tradition and Heron of Alexandria
created the first steam engine. In China, Zhang
Heng improved a water clock and invented a
seismometer, and Ma Jun invented a chariot
with differential gears. During the early 19th
century in England, Germany and Scotland, the
development of machine tools led mechanical
engineering to develop as a separate field within
engineering. Mechanical Engineering brings in the
use of core principles like mechanics, kinematics,
thermodynamics, materials science and structural
analysis along with tools like Department
of Mechanical Engineering computer-aided
engineering and product lifecycle management
to design and analyze manufacturing plants,
industrial equipment and machinery, heating
and cooling systems, motor vehicles, aircraft,
watercraft, robotics, medical devices and more.
Mechanical Engineering has continually evolved
Mechanical Engineering department at SSCET,
Badhani-Pathankot came into existence in year
2003 with an intake of 60 students and later
on the seats were increased to 90. It also serves
as catering department to other disciplines and
now the department has grown with strength
of 360 students. The department also offers M.
Tech. programme with intake of 18 students.
The students are taught with latest methodology
using advanced trends in theory and practice
of mechanical and industrial engineering. The
academic program lays emphasis on Interactive
Seminars, analysis and synthesis involved in design,
manufacturing and operation of mechanical
system. Well qualified, experienced and dedicated
faculty at Mechanical engineering department
aims at overall growth and development of the
students.
Mechanical Engineers can make their career
in sectors like automobile, oil and natural gas
production, power generation, space research,
aeronautical, cement, railways, consultancy and
design, heavy machinery, defense and above all
booming information technology. Mechanical
Engineering graduate may go in for higher
education in specialized areas like Computer Aided
Design & Robotics, Mechanical Machine Design,
Computer Integrated Manufacturing/ Production,
to incorporate advancements in technology.
Mechanical engineers today are pursuing
developments in such fields as composites,
mechatronics, and nanotechnology. The field
overlaps with Aerospace engineering, Civil
engineering, and Petroleum engineering to varying

The department has a central workshop facility having Machine Shop,
Carpentry Shop, Smithy Shop, Sheet Metal Shop, Welding Shop which are
equipped with world class infrastructure to impart technical training to the
students of all disciplines.
Mechanical Engineering department has a separate building having various

primarily the outcome of telephone, radio and
television equipment development and the large
amount of electronic systems development came
during World War - II. Electronic Engineering
as a profession sprang from technological

department came into existence in the year

Computer Science and Engineering (CSE)
The study of the theoretical foundations of
information and practical techniques for their
implementation and application in computer
systems form the essence of Computer Science or
Computing Science (CSE). Software professionals
invent and consistently improve upon the
algorithmic processes that create, describe, and
transform information and formulate suitable
abstractions to model complex systems. The
introduction of new dimensions to computer
science such as games and web browsers and
using that understanding to create new programs
or improve existing ones have made this field very
exciting and challenging.
CSE department has intake of 90 students at B
Tech level and also running M.Tech programme
with intake of 18 students. At R & D centre

from Industry and Research organizations are

The Vision of Civil Engineering Department is to
develop this department as an internationally
recognized centre for academic excellence,
research and development in the field of Civil
Engineering.
Survey Camp
Survey Camp is organized every year by the
Department during Summer Vacations which
provides opportunity to experience the practical
aspects of surveying in respect of preparing a
Topographic Map of a typical undulated area. This
also inculcates into the students various qualities
like Group Management and Team work apart
from Leadership.
Department Of
Civil Engineering
Civil Engineering Department was established in
the year 2004 with an intake of only 30 students.
Thereafter, the intake was increased from 30 to 60
during the session 2011-2012. Now, the intake in
B.Tech has been increased from 60 to 120 in the
morning shift and from 0 to 60 in the 2nd shift. In
addition, the post graduation courses viz M.Tech.
in Soil Mechanics and Foundation Engineering
(SMFE) in the morning shift, and M. Tech in
Structural- Design (SD) in the 2nd shift with an
intake of 24 seats in each course as per approval
of All India Council for Technical Education,
New Delhi, during this session 2012-13. Also,
an Auto Cad Lab (Research Lab) has been
established, which is equipped with latest version
of Computer Systems and necessary softwares.
It is worth mentioning that the construction of
a new independent Civil Engineering Block is
being started very shortly. Regarding Academic
achievements, there is lot of improvement in the
Academic Result of Civil Engineering Students.
Apart from high pass percentage, our four
students have obtained more than 80% marks in
the PTU Examination held in December, 2011.
The Civil Engineering Department has been a
community of enthusiastic students and devoted
faculty since its inception, All the faculty members
deserve appreciation for all round development
and brilliant academic results.

to all labs is maintained and equipped with all
machines required as per course such as tablet
punching, tablet coating, tablet polishing, capsule
filing, dissolution testing, disintegration machine
etc. This room provides a window for young and
aspiring pharmacist to be well versed with current
pharmaceutical scenario.
Computer Facility
The institution has set up facility for in house use
of computer, email and internet services for the
students, staff and the faculty. The lab is provided
with Pentium-IV computers and a 15 MBPS
line which helps students in literature search,

The industry is at its all time boom but has not
reached its peak. It is estimated that within the
next decade, a rise of 35% will occur in the
Tourism sector in India. There is an acute shortage
of trained professionals within the industry. By
2010 Northern India is going to witness a steep
growth in the tourism sector. An estimated 2 lakh
beds are required in Northern India itself to cater
to the increased demand.
Thus an approximate 3 lakhs job openings will

The industry is facing a crisis situation for want

PREVENTION
OF RAGGING
As per the ruling of Hon'ble Supreme Court of
India, ragging is a cognizable offence and banned
by the court of law. Depending upon the nature
and gravity of the offence, those who are found
guilty of participation in, or abetment to ragging
can be
a) Suspended/expelled from the college.
b) Rusticated from the college upto two years.
c) Fined upto Rs. 25,000/-.
d) Face rigorous imprisonment upto three years.
All necessary steps are taken by the college
authorities to curb any incident(s) of ragging in the
campus. The senior students are made to sign an
undertaking that they will abstain from indulging
in ragging. Anti Ragging Squads are formed in the
college to keep a strict vigil over student activities
in the college campus. Surprise checks are carried
out in the hostels from time to time to monitor
the students. Anti ragging posters and banners
are displayed at various locations in the campus to
dissuade senior students from participating in any
ragging activity. Each student will have to give an
affidavit as per the form given at the end of the
prospectus.
