2. On a gray winter day a wild wind whistled against the windows...
3. and the child was afraid and asked, "What is the wind saying?“
4. And the mother told the child what it said: "Open, window, open, or I will break you!"
5. The window replied, "No, I will not open, I must keep the children warm."
6. The wind tried to break the window but it was strong and didn't break.
7. Then the wind whipped against the doors of the house and the child asked, "What is the wind saying now mother?"
8. And she told the child what it said: "Open, door, open, and let me come in!"
9. The door replied , "No, I will not open and I will not let you in!"
10. The wind shouted : “ open, door, open, or I will blow you down!”
11. The door replied , "No, I will not open because then you will blow through the house and make it cold and break the things the people have."
12. Then the wind tried to blow the door open but the door stayed shut.
13. Next it whistled in the trees and the child asked, "What is the wind saying now, Mother?" And she told the child what the wind said:
14. "Move, trees, move." The trees answered , "No! We will bend our branches but we will not move!" The wind said again, "Move, trees, move, or I will blow you down!"
15. The trees replied , "No, we will not move, we have been planted here to give the children shade." And the wind tried hard to blow the trees down, but they did not move.
16. Then the wind pounded against the house and the child asked, "Now what is the wind saying, Mother?" And she told the child what it said:
17. "Move, house, move and let me pass!" The house answered , "No, I will not move." The wind said again, "Move, house, move, or I will blow you down."
18. But the house said, "Then blow me down because I will not move. The people built me here to keep them warm and dry and safe, and here I will stay."
19. The wind tried again and again to blow the house down but the house didn't move a single inch.
20. Now the wild wind blew through the canyon and screamed with rage against the mountain....
21. and the child was afraid and asked in a timid voice, "Now what is the wind saying, Mother?"
22. And she told the child what it said: "Move, mountain, move, or I will blow you down!"
23. And the mountain laughed and answered, “ Go away silly wind ”, and pushed it up into the sky. T he wind raced madly around in circles until it could not blow any more and finally fell asleep.
24. Then the sun shone upon the mountain and it was quiet in the canyon. The trees were still and the house was warm and quiet... and the child was not afraid anymore.
