Sophie Moran filmed various elements for her documentary about shoes over multiple locations and sessions. She captured vox pops by asking people in shopping areas about their favorite shoes, which took a long time due to many people declining to be filmed. She also filmed walking montages in a shopping center by placing the camera low to capture people's shoes as they walked. Several interviews were filmed, some requiring multiple takes or sessions to ensure adequate lighting, sound quality, and developed responses from interviewees. Cutaway footage showing shoes and related items was self-filmed to complement each interview.
2. We filmed the voxpops in Liscard and
Liverpool shopping areas. We asked
people what their favourite pair of
shoes were. Not many people would
allow us to film them so this took a
very long time and lots of trips.
We filmed the title sequence using a
tracking dolly. We used many different
people in different styles of shoes.
3. We filmed the walking montages in Liverpool
shopping centre. We placed the camera very low
down to get a clear picture of peoples shoes as
they walked past us. This gave quite good footage.
When first filming Debra Freckleton the
microphone did not pick up the sound
so we had to repeat this interview. We
created more questions the second
time round to get a better response.
We followed rule of thirds framing. We
had one cutaway in this interview of
Debra walking in heels, we filmed this
ourselves.
4. We filmed Joan Turley in her house, we had to use the
freestanding light to create better lighting on camera. The light
changed in some parts so we had to re film this interview a few
times to get the lighting right in all shots. We had a variety of
cutaways, some of Joan’s shoes and her walking, we filmed all of
these ourselves.
5. For the Claire Mcloughlin interview we were
in her office. This had very bright lighting so o
extra lights were needed. We tried to
conform to the rule of thirds here. The
interview was done in one session, it was 10
minutes long and had to be cut down
significantly.
6. This is the Phil Squires interview, we did this in one
session. The lighting was dull so we used the camera
top light. We filmed the cutaways of Phil’s shoes
ourselves.
7. Ian Smith’s interview was filmed in the Shoe Market. We had
filmed a shoe market interview before this one but the lady
we filmed did not give us full answers to our questions. W
re-wrote these questions and went back. We filmed all the
cutaways ourselves and filmed Ian working in the shop.
8. The Grace Watts interview took place in the Dr Marten’s shop, they
were kind enough to close the shop for us so we did not have to
compete with background noise when filming. We had to do a few takes
to make sure the questions were clear in the answers. We filmed all the
cutaways in the store ourselves and tired to relate them to what Grace
had spoken about.
9. We filmed Natalie Warren’s interview in her house, we chose this
location because this is where she produces her shoes. E filmed the
cutaways of her shoes ourselves, we did cutaways that represented
what she was talking about in the interview. We did this interview in
two takes because some questions needed more developed answers.
We had to use the freestanding light because the setting was very dark.
