3. What’s the point?
The purpose of PowerPoint is to provide a visual aid
for a presentation. It’s a particularly versatile and
effective visual aid for a number of reasons. Firstly, it
makes your talk more interesting for the audience by
providing a visual representation of the topics
covered. Moreover, it helps you to structure your talk
and break it down into clearly identifiable topics. It
also helps the audience (and you) to recognise and
remember the main points that you are covering.
Finally, if you are self-conscious about talking in front
of people, the PowerPoint focuses the audience’s
attention away from you towards the slide-show.
