Wechsler Adult Intelligence Scale Age range 16-89 Measures general intelligence 60-75 minutes to take IQ scores can help locate learning problems Test considered the standard that most go by today Must be administered by a trained test administrator
WAIS description continued Test contains two sections: verbal and performance subtests 14 total subtests Questions including general knowledge questions, standard math problems, vocabulary, picture completion, etc.
WAIS compared to RIAS 75 on WAIS shows minimal intellectual functioning 76 on RIAS shows the same Scores higher than 75 do not qualify for social security benefits Some didn’t receive services because of RIAS score, whereas they would have, had they taken the WAIS, and vice versa
Rubric 6 categories Accessibility of instrument Cost effectiveness Validity Reliability Adaptability for special needs Overall format
Rubric continued Each category has possible score of 1, 2, or 3 1 – below expectations 2 – meets expectations 3 – above expectations Each score has a description for the category of evaluation that helps decide which score the test should receive
Test evaluated Accessibility – 1 because no online access Cost Effectiveness – 1 because average price is $400 -$500 Validity – 2 because it measure specific traits and relates them to other factors (social security benefits, medicaid) and other tests are compared to the WAIS
Evaluation continued Reliability – 3 because it is the standard for intelligence tests and results are consistent over the years Adaptability for special needs – 3 because purpose of test is to search for special needs possibility. Plus, a test administrator is present for any help Overall format – 2 because  structure of test is clear, however the time constraint makes test not very time efficient
Conclusion WAIS – measures general intelligence Rubric – evaluates efficiency of WAIS through 6 categories Evaluation – accessibility and cost effectiveness receive a “1” and the other four categories are at expectations or above
