Things to remember
n If your database has special
characteristics – allow them to be
    searched
n xxxx site that contains resources for South
Asian studies doesn’t allow entry of special
        characters in searches
n Take the user back where they were
n If you click on one entry in a list and then go
back, you should go back to the same place
        on the list
Things to remember
n Don’t include the citation only in
English if the original was in another
  language
n Make citations as complete as
  possible
n Think about OpenURL when
  compiling access points
n Don’t hide the OpenURL button
Things to remember
n Don’t make the user do the same thing
    over and over
n Preferences should ‘stick’ for the session
         • Sort order
         • And/or
         • Include/exclude
n Put a simple search box of the very first
        screen
n Allow us to define an access point that takes
the user to a logical place to begin their
        search
Things to avoid
n Very long URLs
    n http://xxxxxxx.com/pqdlink?Ver=1&Exp=12-30-

Things to avoid
n Meaningless addresses
n Especially important in a linking scenario
         • A perfect address for a journal article would be
            • DOI, or
            • ISSN,year,volume,startpage

n Constant changes
n Pointless graphics
n Clutter
